NYPD: Orthodox Jewish couple, toddler slashed in possible hate crime in Manhattan

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating a possible hate crime after an Orthodox Jewish family was slashed Wednesday evening in Lower Manhattan, officials said.
The attack happened just before 6 p.m. on State Street, according to authorities.
The 22-year-old man was slashed in the head, the 23-year-old woman on the lip, and their 1-year-old son was slashed on the chin, according to police.
The victims were visiting New York from Belgium and refused medical attention.
Darryl Jones, 30, was allegedly ranting during the attack and was cuffed by officials at the scene.
Jones was charged with three counts of assault, assault on a person less than 7 years old, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to police, Jones has been arrested at least seven other times and was released in February after serving nine years in state prison for an August 2011 robbery and attack in Harlem.
Officials said Jones struck a 50-year-old man with an unknown object in a stairwell, then punched, kicked before throwing the victim down several flights of stairs.
Jones is on parole until 2026.
