Arrest made in killing involving hemp in Darlington County

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Deangelo McFarland is charged with murder in a killing that involved hemp, according to deputies.

Darlington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived to the scene on Airport Road on February 27 around 7 p.m. and found people huddled around Christopher McLeod trying to give him CPR, according to an incident report.

The report said McLeod had been shot in the lower right side of his abdomen.

Deputies stepped in to give CPR until meds arrived, officials said. A small black pistol and a phone were found near him.

McLeod's father, Joseph McLeod, told authorities he was his father and they had flown to the airport so his son could sell "hemp" and "flowers”, according to the police report.

It also said while they were waiting to hear from the suspects to make the transaction, his son told him he had a "bad feeling" and wanted them to go, a report said.

The incident report further states while the father was meeting with the suspects he said he heard a gunshot and his son yell.

McFarland is being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center in Darlington.
