Default Waterloo, IA WM, 49 shot dead resisting robbery of his lighter by 3 negros


Waterloo Police arrest three in connection to August 15th shooting
August 20, 2020

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) About a week ago, KWWL was informed of a shooting that took place at 11:42 p.m. August 15th on 556 Adrian Street. The victim was Vincent J. Hemenway (age 49) who suffered a gunshot wound. Hemenway later died and autopsy was completed on August 18th. The cause of death was ruled a homicide.

During the investigation, Waterloo Police have made charges: Ralpheal R. Williams (age 29) was arrested in the area of Lamont and Prince Street on unrelated warrants. Williams has been held in jail since. On August 19th, he was charged with 1st Degree Robbery in connection with the incident.

Ana H. Berinobis-McLemore (age 24) was arrested and charged with Robbery 1st Degree on August 18th.

During the investigation, Waterloo Police charged Robert Lee Williams Jr. (age 31) in connection with the shooting of Tony Campbell on July 31st, 2020 at 2:20 p.m. in the 900 block of W. 6th St.

Robert was charged with Possession of Firearm as a Felon, Willful Injury and Attempted Murder. Robert was also charged (Possession of Firearm as a Felon and Intimidation with a weapon) in his involvement in shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Argyle on August 2nd, 2020.


Authorities allege Ralpheal Williams and others approached Hemenway in a garage at 556 Adrian St. around 11:40 p.m. as part of a robbery plan. During the encounter, Hemenway resisted when someone tried to take his lighter, and one of the other robbers opened fire, striking Hemenway. He later died at a hospital.

Ralpheal Williams was found in the area following the shooting. Investigators found cell phone evidence that the Adrian Street robbery was supposed to be part of a string of robberies that were planned.
