Default Stoodint Ladarius Jamon Starks gits 40 yr scholarship to NigU for sodomy at high skoo

Teen gets 40 years in prison after sexual assault at Prattville High School

PRATTVILLE — A former Prattville High School student was sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting a female student at the school.

Ladarius Jamon Starks, 19
, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Ben Fuller on Monday morning. Starks pleaded guilty in December to sodomy and attempted rape. He had been indicted on those charges along with a kidnapping charge in the wake of the December 2018 attack. Fuller sentenced Starks to 20 years on both the sodomy and attempted rape charges, with the sentences to run consecutively. Starks was 18 at the time of the assault.

Emotions were high in the courtroom as both the mother of the victim and Starks' mother broke down in tears while addressing the could.

What happened?

Prattville Police Department investigator Scott Baxley told Autauga District Judge Joy Booth in a January 2019 preliminary hearing that Starks allegedly told the victim that a teacher wanted to see her, and then followed behind her in the hall. When she got near a bathroom Starks allegedly “shoved her” into the bathroom then “got her in a headlock and forced her to the floor.” He then straddled her and forced her to perform a sex act. Starks then told her to disrobe in preparation for another sex act, and the victim then “elbowed him,” and made her escape, Baxley said.

The incident occurred at the school, but after school hours, court records show. Baxley also told Booth that after his arrest Starks made a statement to investigators and “confessed” to the acts that occurred.

Starks is believed to have been involved in a similar sexual assault situation at Billingsley School that occurred prior to the Prattville High assault. Greg Pittman stepped down from his position as principal of Billingsley following an internal school system investigation. He had been principal for about a year and a half.

The Montgomery Advertiser received a heavily redacted copy of the report of the independent investigation from the Autauga County Schools after filing a public information request. Any information about the alleged female victim and male perpetrator, their parents or any disciplinary action Pittman gave the male student was redacted. Both the alleged victim and perpetrator were high school students at Billingsley at the time. Billingsley is a K-12 school. The independent investigation was conducted by W. David Ryan, a Tuscaloosa attorney who practices education and employment law.
