A suspect was taken into custody Saturday after an early morning shooting in Lake Highlands that killed a man and left a woman wounded.

Carl Randle, 28
, faces a charge of murder and is being held in the Dallas County Jail.

An arrest warrant affidavit says Randle was at Cottonwood Trail in the 12700 block of North Central Expressway Service Road about 4 a.m. when he got into an argument with two people. The argument escalated and Randle shot both people, according to the affidavit.

One of the victims, a man in his 50s, died at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The woman who was shot ran to a convenience store to call 911 and was taken to a hospital, the affidavit states.

Homicide on Central Expressway Service Road

On July 4, 2020, at around 4:00 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call at the 12700 block of the N. Central Expressway Service Road, northbound. Upon arrival, they located the victim, a White male in his fifties, who had suffered from a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire and Rescue pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Officers responded to a second shooting call around the same time at 12900 Coit Road, regarding a White female who had also been shot. She was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. It was determined that the two shooting incidents were related and the suspect, Carl Randle, a 28-year-old Black male, was located by patrol officers nearby. He was subsequently interviewed at Dallas Police Headquarters and admitted to shooting the victim after an argument. He was transported to Lew Sterrett Jail and charged with murder, a felony of the first degree. His bond will be set by a Dallas County Magistrate.

Police found Randle using a description the woman and another witness provided. The affidavit says he admitted to the shooting during a police interview.

Police said Randle and the victims were homeless and lived in a wooded area near Forest Lane and North Central Expressway.
