Default Pregnant mudshark, her monkey found shot to deff Hartsville, SC motel murder-suicide

UPDATE: Two Ashland people dead after murder-suicide in S.C.
Updated Apr 8, 2020

Two Ashlanders are dead following a murder-suicide in a South Carolina town early Wednesday morning.

Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Kodie Patrick and Isaiah R. Gedeon, both of the Ashland area, were found dead outside of a motel room in the town of Hartsville, South Carolina.

Hardee said Gedeon shot Patrick and then turned the gun on himself, listing the cause of death at between 3:30 and 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Patrick, according to local news outlets, was pregnant at the time of her death.

The investigation is still in the early stages, Hartsville spokeswoman Lauren Baker said. She said police are still sorting out why the two were in the town of 7,000 people in the first place.

“It's too early to say for sure at this time,” she said.

The town is located in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina, located in the northeastern portion of the state. Baker described the town as “small and quaint” and not really a tourist destination because it is away from the coast.

“People live here and work here; we don't have a lot of visitors,” she said. “We're known for our charm, but we're not a destination spot.”

The area is rife with tobacco and cotton fields, Baker said. She said the motel the two were found outside of was in an isolated spot on the edge of town.

“There's really not much around there,” she said.

Patrick was a standout defensive player for the Russell Lady Devils soccer team, graduating in 2014. Early Wednesday afternoon, as news of her death traveled from the farmland of Darlington County to the hills and ridges of Boyd and Greenup, friends and family showed an outpouring of grief on the Facebook profile of the mother of two.

“RIP Kodie Patrick. You were such a sweet person, with a beautiful soul. May God watch over your boys while you fly high with your baby girl. I couldn't even begin to imagine the pain this has brought. Prayers for the family,” one woman wrote.

Gedeon was a former football player for the Ashland Tomcats who went on to play for the West Portsmouth Tanks semi-pro team. He was of the class of 2016. Although a Facebook page could not be located for Gedeon, friends and family also posted their condolences in the wake of the tragedy.

“Keep your loved ones close, life is so fragile. My heart is broken for so many people that knew Isaiah Rashad Gedeon and Kodie Patrick. Count your blessings and reach out to anyone who is struggling. Praying for everyone impacted,” another woman wrote.
