The RISE of the Black Serial Killer,
by Justin Cottrell.
https://www.amazon.com/Rise-Black-Se...4213770&sr=8-1

In Rise of the Black Serial Killers: Documenting a Startling Trend, Justin Cottrell expels the myth that serial killers in America are predominately white. On the contrary after sifting through a myriad of newspaper records and books, he’s compiled a list of murderers that is equal too or greater than the number of white serial killers from 1860 to present. Few if any have ever heard any of their names or stories, until now.

Based on his findings white serial killers have been underrepresented throughout American history when compared to the percentage of the population they represent by a factor of 1.79 on average. On the other hand, black serial killers have been overrepresented 3 to 7 times their portion of the population, with a 150 year average of 4.44. Another startling trend he uncovered is black serial killers have never represented less than 30.23% of the number of serial killers in a given decade, despite their overall percentage of the population never exceeding 13.1%. This trend has steadily increased to the point that in our current decade they represent 77.27% of the number of serial killers apprehended since 2010, yet only account for 12.6% of the populace.

Aside from trends, this book offers reasons most people assume black serial killers don’t exist—from the media prohibition on the subject, to general misunderstandings. Comparisons of the lack of media coverage on violent black crime are pitted against the over coverage of comparable white crimes. Coupled with this is a look into the various factors that breed serial killers, with a look into why black serial killers are on the rise, while white serial killers are on the decline.

To prove his research is valid, a full list of every black serial killer is provided, along with a brief description of their crimes. In addition to this the biographies of 35 of these killers are given, with detailed information about their crimes.

Cottrell's book fully documents 839 black serial killers. The absolute majority of which arose during the Civil Rights era. Unfortunately, his book sales are low and has only 24 written reviews and some reviewers state the book is based on lies.

The Anonymity of African American Serial Killers: A Continuum of Negative Imagery from Slavery to Prisons

by Ph.D. Allan L. Branson

Published in 2016: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the...=9781517460297

Race-based perceptions regarding African American males have created the belief that, although these men are frequently associated with crime, they do not engage in serial murder.

That conviction reflects a cultural bias whereby white male serial murderers arguably have been given an iconic status within popular culture, and the "anti-hero" traits accorded them are denied to their African-American counterparts, rendering the latter invisible.

A combination of critical discourse analysis, case studies, and quantitative analysis of social artifacts provide support for this thesis. An overview of the significant impact of slavery, the creation of media imagery regarding criminality from the late nineteenth century to the present, and the over representation of African Americans in the penal system provide a framework to examine how racism in the U.S. has evolved, how multiple forms of popular media have shaped perceptions of both blacks and serial murderers, and how the FBI's criminal profiling matrix developed in accord with these cognitive patterns.

All combine to create a dangerous delusion that blinds law enforcement to possible perpetrators of serial murder. Significantly, the case of the D.C. Snipers and other black serial killers are examined to demonstrate the biases inherent in social and cultural attitudes to such crimes and the consequences for the continuing anonymity of black serial murderers.

The incredibly dangerous and damning end result, is that everyone, including the FBI has been fooled into thinking that black serial killers did not exist and do not exist today. Justin Cottrell's book explains the rise of black serial killers in numbers that increased astronomically beginning with the Civil Rights Act in the mid 1960s. I recall reading somewhere that when slavery was in the early stages of Abolition, the people who owned slaves made arguments to the effect that, [you don't know what you're doing, you have no idea, they're dangerous and must be contained]
Where I read that, was likely in a legitimate document, but I can't find it at this time.
