Police said the rampage in Chinatown Saturday morning that left four homeless men dead and one critically injured appeared to be “random attacks.”

“Motive appears to be, right now, just random attacks. It doesn’t seem anybody was targeted by race, age, anything of that nature,” said Chief of Manhattan South Detective Michael Baldassano at a press conference at police headquarters.

The homicidal spree began at around 1:50 a.m., when cops received a 911 call about an assault on the Bowery near Doyers Street in Chinatown. Responding officers found two men with “severe” head trauma, Baldassano said.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital hospital in critical condition, officials said.

He was being interviewed by police Saturday to help identify his alleged attacker, who sources identified to The Post as Rodriguez “Randy” Santos.

Santos — also believed to be homeless—has 14 past arrests, including an assault charge from May, the sources said.

Police searching the area then discovered three other male victims around the corner on East Broadway, all with head trauma, authorities said.

The three men — who had been sleeping at the time of the attacks — were pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Shortly after the bloody beatings, two witnesses identified the attacker as a man wearing a black jacket and black pants that had “struck the victim numerous times in the head” and then fled, police said.

While canvassing the area, cops spotted the alleged killer — who was holding a three-foot-long, blood-covered metal object that appeared to be from a construction site, a source told The Post.

The 24-year-old was taken into custody at the scene, police said.

Police identified the murder weapon as a “rectangular” metal pipe and urged anyone who may have seen the rampage to come forward.

“I would ask that anyone who may have seen something last night or even a few days in the past, or may themselves have been a victim of a crime like this, that they please contact the police,” Baldassano added. “We’ll take any information if someone saw something strange last night”

The 83-year-old homeless man who was brutally murdered in predawn ramage in Chinatown has been identified, according to police sources.

Cheun Kok, 83, was beaten to death with a heavy metal bar just before 2 a.m. Saturday as he slept on cardboard bedding at the intersection of Bowery and Doyers streets, police and sources said.

Rodriguez “Randy” Santos — who has a history of violence, according to police — has been charged in the senseless attacks that left three others dead and another critical.

The maniac, who is also homeless, is accused of repeatedly hitting the homeless men in the head with the 3-foot bar, cops said.

Santos was expected to be arraigned on murder and assault charges Sunday.

A 49-year-old who miraculously survived the beating was at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was still critical Sunday.

His name has not been released.

Detectives hope to question the man when he is healthy enough, Deputy Chief Michael Baldassano said Saturday.

Homeless man confessed to deadly attacks in Chinatown, prosecutor says

A homeless man confessed to fatally bludgeoning four sleeping vagrants and critically injuring a fifth during a bloody rampage through Chinatown, a prosecutor said in court on Sunday.

Randy Santos, 24, came clean when cops confronted him with evidence of the grisly attacks, Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Alfred Peterson said.

“While he was in the 5th Precinct, he was shown video of the attacks and he admitted that he was the person in the video,” Peterson said.

Peterson also revealed that the weapon Santos allegedly used – described by law enforcement sources as a 3-foot, 15-pound piece of construction metal – was “covered in blood and hair” when cops caught him carrying it over his shoulder.

Nabbing Santos likely prevented further carnage, because “the way he was walking, it looked like he was looking for more victims,” a source has said.

Peterson didn’t allege a motive for the orgy of violence shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday but noted that “all of the people were sleeping” and Santos’ actions were “unprovoked.”

Santos, whose last known address is a homeless shelter in Brooklyn, is charged with four counts of murder, one court of attempted murder and criminal possession of marijuana in the grisly attacks along East Broadway and the Bowery near Chatham Square.

Santos was blank-faced and stared straight ahead during an arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court that lasted less than five minutes.

He was handcuffed behind his back and didn’t speak or enter a plea during his brief appearance.

Santos has a history of unprovoked violence, including a November arrest for an incident in which a man was bitten on the chest inside a single-room-occupancy building on Manhattan’s West 35th Street, sources have said.

Court-appointed defense lawyer Arnold Levine didn’t seek bail, and Judge James Clynes ordered Santos jailed pending another hearing on Friday.
