Wednesday, August 21st 2019

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) ó People who live in the neighborhood where police say a 75-year-old woman was brutally murdered by an appliance delivery man are shocked and devastated; saying the crime is forcing them to question their own safety.

ďIn broad daylight, in the morning, when people are going to work? Itís devastating, itís horrible,Ē said Jeff Pattek who lives about two streets over from the house where Evelyn Udell was found beaten and burned.

Boca Raton Police arrested 21-year-old Jorge Lachazo of Hialeah on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree arson and armed burglary with battery.

On Monday morning, police said Lachazo and a delivery truck driver for JB Home Delivery dropped off and installed a washer and dryer at Udellís home in the Colonnade at Glen Oaks.

Police said the co-worker, David Gonzalez, went outside to make calls while Lachazo remained inside the home to give the woman instructions on how to use the new equipment which she purchased from Best Buy.

Gonzalez told police he heard screams coming from inside the house. He said he went inside and found blood and the victim on the floor. Gonzalez said he called 911 as Lachazo drove off in the delivery truck.

According to the arrest report, JB Home Delivery is a company subcontracted by Best Buy. On Tuesday, Best Buy closed their Boca Raton location out of respect for Udellís grieving family.

Neighbors say the details surrounding this brutal crime and the fact the delivery man was connected to a huge retailer like Best Buy, is making them question allowing any worker inside their home.
