Investigators said the homicide was the result of a domestic incident between a husband and wife.

  • Wife accused of shooting husband near Loxahatchee was law enforcement officer
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — The woman arrested Friday in connection with the shooting death of her husband told a 911 operator that she was a law enforcement officer for a government agency and that her husband had been threatening to kill her prior to the shooting, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Marcia Maria Thompson, 39, told the operator she was in uniform and wearing a gun belt, the affidavit stated.

Arriving deputies found the unresponsive body of 52-year-old Terry Thompson in the living room. In addition, two children were also in the home at the time, the report said.

A detective wrote that nine fired .40 caliber shell casings were found inside the house. "Six total defects were seen in the decedents (sic) back, one in his left arm, and two in the chest/abdomen area," the affidavit said.

The arresting officer said Marcia Thompson offered a statement in which she claimed there was a history of domestic violence between the couple and one was reported to law enforcement in 2011. The officer also said Marcia Thompson claimed she and Terry argued off and on during the early-morning hours and that numerous times he threatened to cut her throat and cut her head off.

She got dressed for work in the bedroom and when she returned to the living room she saw Terry, who she said had continually verbally threatened her, lying on the couch on his back with his feet on the couch.

The next thing she remembered were flashing lights and ringing in her ears, the detective wrote in his report. The investigator said Marcia said she used her duty weapon to fire the shots.

Although she said her husband made verbal threats she never saw him with any weapons and he did not physically touch her prior to the shooting, the detective noted. The investigator also wrote that no injuries were observed on Marcia Thompson.

When asked why she didn't call law enforcement due to threats against her, she said she was scared and in fear for her life, according to the affidavit.

The investigator said he did not believe Terry Thompson posed such a threat that deadly force was necessary and concluded that probable cause existed to charge her with second-degree murder.
