Default WF, 49 stabbed to death in Pomona, CA by “heavily tattooed” spic in unprovoked attack

Police: Fatal Stabbing In Pomona Appears To Be Unprovoked
March 9, 2019 at 5:20 pm

POMONA (CBSLA) — Two people were stabbed in Pomona and transported to the hospital in serious condition Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Both victims — a white female and a black male — were stabbed several times in the upper torso.

Late Saturday, police said the stabbing appeared to be unprovoked.

The suspect has been apprehended, police said. He has been identified as 21-year-old Jose Mancinas of Pomona.

A 49-year-old woman is deceased. The other victim — a 29-year-old male — was taken into surgery. Both names are withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

The male stabbing victim is expected to survive.

Pomona Police said the stabbing occurred in the 1400 block of E. Mission Boulevard around 1:45 p.m.

Initially, there were reports that the stabbing occurred just outside a homeless shelter but the shelter was not connected to the stabbing in any way, police said.

The suspect was described as “heavily tattooed” and was observed fleeing on foot just prior to officers arriving on scene.

A crime scene investigator was driving back to the Pomona Police Station when he observed a male who matched the description of the suspect. Authorities said Mancinas was found with items that linked him to the stabbing.

Mancinas was taken to the station where he was booked for murder and attempted murder.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit were sent to the scene to assist with the investigation.

KCAL9’s Cristy Fajardo said investigators continue to search for a motive. The attack seemed to happen without provocation.

The victims were doing nothing investigators said but sitting on a retaining wall. For no apparent reason, they said the suspect began stabbing them.

“We do have some surveillance footage of the incident,” says, Pomona Police Sgt. Jon Edson, “it appears to be completely unprovoked at this time. And the victims did not know who the suspect was.”
