MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio-- The Mayfield Heights Police Department arrested a suspect in the deaths of a woman and her 8-year-old daughter.

Dominique C. Swopes, 27, is charged with two counts of aggravated murder and aggravated arson.

The fire happened early Tuesday morning on Longwood Road in Mayfield Heights. Investigators said Rebecca Pletnewski, 41, was stabbed to death before the blaze. Firefighters pulled her daughter, Olivia Schneider, from an upstairs bedroom and took her to the hospital, but she died of smoke inhalation.

Police brought in Swopes for questioning that same day and he was released later that night.

During the investigation over the next few days we were able to collect incriminating evidence against Swopes," police said in a news release on Monday.

He was arrest Friday without incident.

Pletnewski was an intensive care nurse at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She leaves behind another daughter, 4-year-old Vivienne, who was not at home at the time of the fire.

Pletnewski and Schneider were laid to rest on Monday.

Ohio Man Accused Of Stalking Charged With Murder After Woman, Daughter Found Dead In Burnt Out Home

A man suspected in the deaths of a woman he was accused of stalking, as well as her 8-year-old daughter, has been charged with aggravated murder and aggravated arson after both were found in their burnt out home.

Dominque Swopes, 27, was charged Monday in the Nov. 20 deaths of 41-year-old Rebecca Pletnewski and her daughter, Olivia Schneider
, both of which were ruled homicides, police in Mayfield Heights, Ohio said.

Pletnewski was found dead in her home and had been fatally stabbed before the fire, authorities say. Her daughter was pronounced dead at a hospital from smoke inhalation.

Swopes was Pletnewski's neighbor. He was arrested Friday and questioned.

"He became a subject of interest that day because what family and friends had told us that Rebecca had warned them or told them of instances of potentially stalking by the neighbor," said Police Chief Fred Bittner told Fox 8 Cleveland. "He became our primary suspect at the time after talking to family."

"He just apparently had left her notes occasionally or talked to her outside. There were other advancements made through maybe social media, and she told him she didn't want anything to do with him, she had a boyfriend," Bittner said, according to the outlet.
