Police: Infant Kidnapped By New Jersey Babysitter Found Safe
March 10, 2018 at 9:55 pm

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) — Police have arrested and charged a woman in New Jersey for allegedly kidnapping an infant she was babysitting.

Officials say the four-month-old’s mother attempted to pick up the child at a home along 33rd Street in Camden on Friday.

According to police, the child’s mother reported the infant missing when she couldn’t contact the babysitter, 22-year-old Nadajia Hill, of Camden.

Detectives say after Hill had assumed care of the child, Friday night, she had taken him to Newark on public transportation.

Hill and the infant were then determined to be on a southbound New Jersey Transit RiverLine train Saturday.

Police say just after 12:30 p.m. officers located both Hill and the child on the train when it stopped in Riverside.

The child was said to have been found in good health and was returned to his family.

Hill is now facing both Kidnapping and Child Endangerment charges and has been remanded to the Camden County Jail.

“We would like to thank all of the partner agencies that immediately responded helped ensure that this infant was located unharmed and safely returned to his family,” said Chief J. Scott Thomson. “This includes the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey State Police, New Jersey Transit Police, Newark Police, New Jersey Department of Child Protection & Permanency and the Delran Emergency Squad, all of whom helped ensure the best possible outcome for this case.”

Disturbing video of baby crawling alone in street leads to mom’s arrest
By Jackie Salo
March 12, 2018 | 6:44pm

A disturbing video that showed a baby crawling alone after dark on a road in upstate New York led to the arrest of the mother, police said.

Ledrika E. Ford, 27, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after her 9-month-old was discovered by strangers in the street unattended, according to Utica Police Department.

Police said they became aware of a video on Facebook Friday night that captured several people rushing to the aid of the abandoned infant.

“That’s what people do now? Leaving their kids in the street?” an incredulous good Samaritan can be heard saying in the video, which ends with a woman frantically shouting, “That’s my baby.”

Officers were able to track down the 27-year-old mom — identified as Ford — who claimed that she didn’t know how the baby ended up in the street.

Ford told police that she and a relative buckled the baby into the back seat of a car, started driving and soon realized the child was no longer in the vehicle.

She said they returned to where they were initially parked and found the 9-month-old.

Authorities notified Child Protective Services which removed four kids from Ford’s custody.

In a statement, police thanked those who rushed to help the child.

“The Utica Police Department would like to thank the citizens in the video who attended to the child showing their caring and compassionate spirit of the City of Utica,” authorities said.
