MS-13 gangsters arrested in connection to Long Island slayings
By Max Jaeger
July 17, 2017 | 5:25pm

The feds had arrested three MS-13 gang members suspected in the brutal killings of four young men on Long Island in April, according to a report.

Investigators believe that the brutal El Salvadorian gang was behind the slayings because the bodies appeared cut by machete — the group’s weapon of choice, Newsday said.

Investigators say gang-bangers Alexis Hernandez, Santis Leonel Ortiz-Flores and Omar Antonio Villata are responsible for the deaths of Justin Llivicura, 16, Jorge Tigre, 18, Jefferson Villalobos, 18, and Michael Lopes Benegas, 20 — whose beaten, lifeless bodies were discovered in Suffolk County park.

The trio was arrested Thursday by the FBI’s Long Island Gang Task Force. Hernandez and Hernandez pleaded not guilty in federal District Court in Central Islip on Monday, according to Newsday. The disposition of the other two men was not immediately clear.

The gang has about 400 members in Suffolk County. Their average age is 18, and their most common crime is assault with the gang’s “signature” weapon — the machete, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini testified to the Senate Homeland Security Committee in May.

There have been more than 30 murders in Suffolk county attributed to the gang since 2013.

Pack of MS-13 members choke, kick, stomp, beat 2 men with tree limbs at Md. park

Wednesday, July 19th 2017

WHEATON, Md. (WJLA) - Yet another case of unbridled violence at the hands of alleged MS-13 members has made its way into news headlines in Montgomery County.

Around 7 p.m. on June 14, two men were walking in the Wheaton Regional Park, located about two miles northeast of the Westfield Wheaton Mall. As the men approached a public restroom to wash their hands and face, they encountered five Hispanic men giving them sinister stares.

The men did their best to ignore the awkward situation, but the five suspects followed them inside of the otherwise empty bathroom. One victim had his hat knocked off his head. The other victim had his North Face backpack taken.

The five suspects then separated and interrogated the two men, asking if they were affiliated with a certain gang, what country they were born in and what high school they attended.

Without provocation, all 15 MS-13 members began to punch the two men in the head and chest. Upon falling to the ground, the victims were placed in "chokeholds, kicked and stomped on," court documents state. A few members went so far as to grab hold of large tree limbs, using the heavy, coarse wood to beat the victims' defenseless bodies.

One of the men reportedly grabbed hold of a knife and shouted, "Let's just kill them now!" Other members secured weapons of their own when two park patrons happened upon the ongoing assault. Those witnesses inadvertently spooked all 15 MS-13 members, in turn, making them scurry away.

Feds reveal gory details of MS-13’s ‘horrific frenzy of violence’
By Kaja Whitehouse and Lorena Mongelli
July 19, 2017 | 7:31pm

More than a dozen MS-13 gang members — nearly half of them kids — engaged “in a horrific frenzy of violence’’ that left four young men dead in a Long Island Park, the feds said Wednesday.

The victims, suspected of being members of a rival gang, were lured into the woods behind a municipal park in Central Islip and “brutally bludgeoned, sliced and stabbed to death,’’ authorities said.

The slain men — Justin Llivicura, 16, Michael Lopez Banegas, 20, Jorge Tigre, 18, and Jefferson Villalobos, 18 — were tricked into going to the area by two female MS-13 associates, officials said. The victims were then surrounded and attacked by the gang with “machetes, knives and wooden clubs,” according to Long Island federal prosecutors.

Acting Brooklyn US Attorney Bridget Rohde revealed the gory details of the quadruple slay — which grabbed the attention of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions — while announcing new charges against the violent gang.

“MS-13’s mottos may be ‘kill, rape and control,’ but the Department of Justice’s motto is justice for victims and consequences for criminals,” Sessions vowed in a press release.

Rhode’s office added seven new people to a 17-person indictment unveiled earlier in the week that seeks to hold the violent gang responsible for a slew of violence wracking the area.

Three of the seven people charged — Alexis Hernandez, 20, Santos Leonel Ortiz-Flores, 19, and Omar Antonio “Anticristo” Villata, 19 — were nailed with participating in the quadruple homicide.

Six juveniles were also charged in the April slaying, but through separate documents because of their age, a person familiar with the case told The Post.

The feds also added to the indictment charges against six men accused of killing Esteban Alvarado-Bonilla at a Central Islip deli on Jan. 30, 2017.

Three of those men — Enrique Portillo, 20 and brothers Alexi Saenz, 22, and Jairo Saenz, 20 — had previously been charged in the same indictment with the Sept. 13, 2016, murders of teenage female pals Nisa Mickens and Kyla Cuevas.

Subway riders lash out at de Blasio over homeless people taking over stations
By Elizabeth Rosner, Kate Parker and Bruce Golding
July 27, 2017 | 12:12am | Updated

Homeless people — including many with mental illness — have crowded the city’s subway system, prompting straphangers to demand action from Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Riders said they were especially concerned about those who could hurt themselves or others because of their mental problems, despite first lady Chirlane McCray’s self-appointed role as an advocate for increased treatment.

On Wednesday morning, one of them talked to himself while perched on the edge of a platform in Manhattan’s West 4th Street station, dangling his legs over the rails.

The unidentified man finally limped away, heeding onlookers who urged him to get up before a train arrived.

“You can see their deranged expressions, and they need help,” George Lapidos, 67, of Tribeca, said after the incident. “I’m sure the city is spending money on shelters, but come on. A shelter won’t solve mental health issues.”

Other riders said they have been screamed at, touched and harassed by mentally ill vagrants all across the transit system. At Brooklyn’s Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station, a commuter described a frightening incident involving a vagrant inside Manhattan’s 59th Street-Columbus Circle station.

“He started yelling at me, and I was very scared,” said the woman, who identified herself as Brooklyn designer Alexis S., 43. “The homeless people have no place to go but to hang out in the subways or at the stations. I’ve seen zero change since de Blasio has been in office. I really don’t know what he is doing except turning a blind eye.”

At the Jay Street-MetroTech station, another rider said: “I feel so unsafe.”

“The subways are so gross, and homeless people touch and harass me constantly,” said the man, who identified himself as a 31-year-old grad student from Brooklyn. “De Blasio definitely doesn’t have a plan. He goes to Germany and ignores his constituents.”

A woman who gave her name as Marlene W., and said she was a trained physician, said, “I’ve seen homeless people hallucinating, yelling. You have a whole range of psychosis. It is really bad on the subways and at the stations. These people are mentally ill and need mental health help,” she said.

“De Blasio ran on doing something about mental illness, his wife did discuss helping . . . I am unsure what she is doing these days.”

At the 14th Street station, where commuters stood on the platform near two homeless men snoozing on a bench, Casey Goldstein said a mayoral visit might finally get the place cleaned up.

“De Blasio should come to this station. It’s a nightmare,” the 31-year-old Upper West Side resident fumed. “I’m paying money for a MetroCard and waiting in filth for a broken train. If he shows up with press, then a cleaning crew will follow.”

In Harlem, a day camp counselor was spotted herding a group of little kids in matching blue T-shirts away from a homeless man who mumbled to himself while approaching the group inside the 125th Street-Lexington Avenue station.

“I think if de Blasio comes here, he’ll be able to get an adequate understanding of the problems that commuters here face,” said Dan Cruz, 63.

De Blasio says help City Hall gave to big donor is not unusual

Mayor de Blasio claimed Wednesday that City Hall’s intervention in a contract dispute involving a major campaign donor was nothing unusual and is the sort of thing that happens regularly with ordinary New Yorkers.

But when asked to give a single *example, he balked.

“I don’t have one for you today,” he said during an unrelated press conference in Queens. “I’ve experienced many.”

City Hall’s involvement with businessman Harendra Singh, who owed the city nearly $750,000 in back rent, is now being probed by the Department of Investigation.

Singh, owner of the now-shuttered Water’s Edge restaurant, was cooperating with the feds in a now-concluded investigation into de Blasio’s fund-raising before Singh was arrested on unrelated bribery charges.

Two former top officials with the Department of Citywide Adminstrative Services — Commissioner Stacey Cumberbatch and Deputy Commissioner Ricardo Morales — have accused de Blasio and members of his inner circle of pressuring them to give Singh a break on the back rent. The restaurant sat on city property.

In May 2016, Hizzoner promised to release a list of campaign donors who got no favors from the city, but he has yet to do so.

MTA rips de Blasio for apparently holding a subway train
By Carl Campanile, Michael Gartland and Bruce Golding
July 27, 2017 | 2:18pm | Updated

Transit officials are investigating why a subway train was delayed inside a station near City Hall until Mayor Bill de Blasio could hop aboard, MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said Thursday.

Lhota called the apparent special treatment “unacceptable,” saying: “No one should stop a train for a single individual to get on.”

“It’s a people’s system — it’s not one over another,” he told reporters following a speech by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in Manhattan.

“Causing a delay is what I want to avoid in every possible way.”

Lhota also noted that “we know when a train comes into a station. We know how long it needs to stay.”

An MTA official told The Post afterward that the agency had confirmed that “the train was held at the station for a police check.”

The incident occurred Tuesday evening inside the City Hall/Broadway station while de Blasio was wrapping up a news conference.

As a Brooklyn-bound R train pulled into the station, mayoral press secretary Eric Phillips announced: “That’s our train. Thank you, guys.”

De Blasio and his aide then passed through the turnstiles and boarded the subway en route to a re-election campaign event in Prospect Park.

Inside the car, The Post overheard a member of the mayor’s NYPD security detail ask a uniformed cop: “Did you hold the train?”

After the cop answered, “Yes,” the mayoral bodyguard replied, “You’re not supposed to do that.”

The cop then briefly left the car, which pulled out of the station following his return.

A rider who heckled the mayor to “Fix the trains!” during his news conference also rode in the same car and vented over what had just happened.

“I think this is a f–king joke. They’ll hold the train for the mayor but not anybody else,” fumed Lainie Durnin of Bay Ridge.

After The Post published Durnin’s comments, Phillips tweeted at a reporter: “You were on the train. I was on the train. It was not held. Your story is not true. And I actually think you know that, sadly.”

Phillips on Sunday also denied the accuracy of an exclusive Post report that cops were ordered to roust vagrants from two subway stations in Brooklyn before de Blasio passed through them on Sunday.

The Post later obtained a copy an official NYPD email that said: “Before the Mayor arrives at the 4th Avenue station, the officers are to sweep the station for homeless persons as well as the Jay Street station.”

Malliotakis will keep NYC a ‘sanctuary city,’ but go after serious criminals
By Rich Calder
July 26, 2017 | 5:18pm

Nicole Malliotakis
Erik Thomas

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis said Wednesday that numerous serious crimes are missing from the list that guides Mayor de Blasio on whether to hand over undocumented immigrants to the feds.

The presumptive Republican mayoral nominee said, if elected, she would “continue” the sanctuary city policy put in place decades ago by the Koch administration that was later expanded by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

But she said she would overhaul de Blasio’s policy that “protects individuals who have committed crimes such as grand larceny, sex abuse, and patronizing a child for prostitution and other serious crimes.”

The administration has compiled a list of 170 felonies that would lead the city to help the feds deport perpetrators.

Malliotakis said she would continue to protect those charged with less serious offenses, such as like turnstile jumping and “fortune telling” — which happens to be a misdemeanor.

She pledged to work with the City Council to change the law and expand de Blasio’s list – a tall measure considering almost all are Democrats who support the current policy.

She would not rule out trying to make the change through an executive order.

De Blasio campaign spokesman Dan Levitan accused Malliotakis of trying to be the Trump administration’s “New York City champion” when it comes to mass deportation , adding “Mayor de Blasio will not turn the NYPD into a deportation force that helps break apart families.”

NYC is tossing a mountain of ‘broken windows’ warrants
By Michael Gartland, Tina Moore and Shawn Cohen
July 26, 2017 | 4:00pm | Updated

Starting next month, the city is tossing 700,000 old warrants seeking arrest for low-level crimes such as public urination, sources said — reversing decades of strict enforcement.

Mayor de Blasio, the NYPD and four of the city’s five district attorneys have signed off on the plan, which would apply only to warrants older than 10 years, according to a spokeswoman for City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, who has pushed for the amnesty.

But de Blasio’s Republican election challenger, Nicole Malliotakis, argued that the scheme would encourage more scofflaws.

“What is the deterrent then for individuals to not commit quality-of-life crimes?” she fumed. “There’s no criminal penalty and now there’s gonna be a civil penalty that’s not enforced.”

The soon-to-be-tossed warrants were issued over the years mostly against people who failed to appear in court after being slapped with summonses for infractions such as public urination, littering and various subway offenses, *according to police.

Citywide, there are more than 1.5 million such outstanding warrants, Manhattan DA Cy Vance Jr. testified before the council in March, adding that there are some 200,000 in Manhattan alone.

The warrants will likely be dismissed by “August or September,” according to Larry Byrne, the NYPD’s deputy commissioner for legal matters, who said there will be “some exceptions.”

The city will not forgive quality-of-life warrants if an individual also has an active felony warrant, he said.

Mark-Viverito called the amnesty push a “tremendous and necessary undertaking,” according to NY1.

Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon — the only DA not to endorse the plan — declined to comment.

The amnesty program is the latest instance of the de Blasio administration moving away from the NYPD’s “Broken Windows” method of policing, which assumes that aggressive efforts to halt minor infractions also leads to a drop in major crimes.

Last summer, the mayor signed the council’s controversial Criminal Justice Reform Act, which decriminalizes quality-of-life infractions — making them civil rather than criminal offenses.

The new rules allow cops to issue summonses for quality-of-life infractions — although officers retain the prerogative to make arrests in such cases.

Trump trashes de Blasio, calls him a ‘pathetic mayor’
By Ruth Brown
July 28, 2017 | 3:25pm | Updated

President Trump appeared to deliver a blistering attack on Mayor Bill de Blasio during a speech about the MS-13 gang on Long Island on Friday, railing against a “pathetic mayor” who won’t let cops do their jobs.

“I’ve met great police who aren’t allowed to do their job because they have a pathetic mayor or a mayor who doesn’t know what’s going on,” Trump said, eliciting cheers from the crowd, to which he quipped: “Were you applauding for someone in particular?”

The mayor’s camp later said in a statement that it was clear Trump was referring to him — and used the call-out to try to cash in.

De Blasio’s campaign said in an e-mail to supporters that Trump’s speech was “incoherent” and asked for cash towards his re-election.

“Chip in $3 to Bill de Blasio’s re-election campaign as a way of saying we will never allow Donald Trump or one of his supporters to lead the largest and most diverse city in America. No way,” wrote campaign manager Rick Fromberg.

Hizzoner wasn’t around to hear the apparent diss.

Even though the self-proclaimed progressive leader flew 4,000 miles to protest Trump in Hamburg earlier this month, he couldn’t be bothered to continue holding up the mantle of discontent when the president was in his own back yard.

City Hall refused to say why de Blasio didn’t make the short trek to Brentwood to join several hundred protesters as Trump addressed a crowd in the heart of MS-13 gangland.

De Blasio administration officials later issued a release saying he was on his way to Boston for the weekend.

De Blasio wasn’t the only one missing in action: NYPD brass were too busy with promotion ceremonies to take part in the event, Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.

“We have a lot to do, a lot of work to do here in New York City. We have the promotion ceremony, and anybody we’d send out — we have two promotions, one at 10 and one at 2 o’clock,” O’Neill told reporters Friday.

Cops arrest two MS-13 gang members for Queens murder
By Sarah Trefethen and Danika Fears
July 28, 2017 | 12:13pm | Updated

Two members of the MS-13 gang have been arrested on Long Island for murdering a man in Queens in May, the NYPD announced Friday, in advance of President Trump’s trip to Suffolk County to speak about the violent group.

Roberto “Splinter” Abrego, 23, and Jose “Smoker” Alvarenga, 27, both of Hempsted, LI, are charged with murdering Fernando Gonzalez-Chavez, 39, in front of the Seven and Seven Deli just after midnight May 31, according to cops.

The murdered man had the number “13” tattooed on his body, leading police to suspect the killing was gang-related, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told reporters.

Gonzalez-Chavez was leaving a bar when he was set upon by the two gang members and “Smoker” shot him in the chest, Boyce said.

The motive is still under investigation but seems to have stemmed from an internal feud within the Long Island branch of the notorious gang, according to Boyce.

“This is still ongoing right now, we’re still peeling this thing back. There may be more arrests. We do have an MS-13 set in the city, out in South Jamaica, not here. This looks like it’s a Hempsted issue visited upon the city,” he said.

The NYPD is still investigating one other murder from late May as possibly MS-13-related, Boyce said.

The NYPD has successfully eradicated two MS-13 “sets” from the city already, Boyce said. “We’ve had two sets before, and we’ve pushed them out. And by pushed them out, I mean we arrested them.”

“We’re concerned. Scared is not the word, but we’re concerned that this is spreading,” Boyce said.

Officers also recovered four guns during the noontime bust at 60 Princeton St. in Hempsted, Boyce said: three 9-mm guns and one 22-caliber pistol.
