Innocent woman caught in crossfire as gunfire erupts downtown

An innocent bystander was shot when two men selling tickets to the Statue of Liberty fire shots at each other near Battery Park on Monday afternoon, NYPD sources said Monday.

One of the ticket-sellers was hit in the exchange of bullets around 3:35 p.m. and was caught by cops while being driven from the scene, sources said.

The innocent victim was identified as a 32-year-old Brooklyn woman who was shot in the knee.

She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment, sources said.

The other victim was identified as a 40-year-old man who was shot in the torso and was in a car that cops spotted traveling erratically across the Brooklyn Bridge shortly after the incident, sources said.

The cops escorted the car to a Brooklyn hospital after the driver told them his passenger had a gunshot wound, sources said.

A second suspect, identified as a 26-year-old man, was nabbed by Port Authority cops near one of the memorial pools at Ground Zero, sources said.

The area around Battery Park has long been a hotbed of scammers who prey on tourists by hawking overpriced tickets for cruises to the Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island, or even charging for rides on the free Staten Island Ferry.

In 2015, The Post revealed how career crook Gregory Reddick was busted for duping a pair of tourists out of $400 for two round-trip rides on the ferry.

Last year, then-NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton announced that a “permanent detail” of cops would be stationed at Battery Park to crack down on the con artists after a tourist from Arkansas suffered a fractured skull when he was punched to the pavement for refusing to buy a pair of tickets to the Statue of Liberty.

Cops believe these two men were involved in downtown shooting

Police are looking for these suspects after a shooting in Battery Park on Monday.

Police believe the two men pictured may have been involved in a broad daylight shooting near Battery Park that left two people — including an innocent bystander — shot, authorities said.

Investigators stopped short of calling the men suspects, but said they may have some knowledge of the incident or know the shooter or his intended target.

An innocent, 34-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man believed to be involved in the battle were struck by gunfire when the shooter opened fire near Battery Place and Washington Street at around 3:30 p.m.

Police said the incident happened when two men selling tickets to the Statue of Liberty got into a fight and one of them pulled out a gun.

The woman who was hurt took a bullet to the left knee and was taken to New York Presbyterian Downtown Hospital in stable condition.

Cops believe the male victim was one of the ticket sellers. They found him in a car on its way to Brooklyn when the vehicle’s driver was pulled over for driving erratically over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Police then escorted the car to the hospital when they realized the passenger had been shot.

The man was held and then released — he is not one of the two sought for questioning, police said.

The driver was later arrested for driving with a suspended license.
