Police make arrest in 95-year-old veteran's death in Md.
8:57 a.m. EST February 25, 2015

COLESVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police say they have made an arrest in the death of a 95-year-old man who was found dead at his Colesville retirement home on Tuesday.

Police say they arrested 60-year-old Eric S. Dyson late Tuesday night. They are expected to release more details on Wednesday.

A source told WUSA9's Bruce Leshan that the death of Dan Long Belvin, a retired Naval officer, was being investigated as a murder. Police say Belvin suffered trauma to the upper body.

Police say that a concerned friend called because he or she had not heard from the victim. The building property manager of the apartment in the 500 block or Randolph Road went to check the apartment at 12:30 p.m. Monday, and found the victim dead. The manager then called 9-1-1.

Officers who arrived at the scene found the circumstances suspicious.

Neighbors told Bruce that the victim was a World War Two pilot who loved baseball and his little sheltie dog.

"He had a little pooch," said neighbor Janice. "His pooch died, and I thought, well maybe he died to. But come to find out there is more to it."

MD Man Convicted in Fatal Stabbing of 95-Year-Old Neighbor

A Wheaton, Maryland, man was convicted of second-degree murder Friday for stabbing his elderly neighbor last year in response to alleged unwanted sexual advances, the State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Eric S. Dyson, 62, stabbed 95-year-old Dan Belvin, a retired Navy officer, in February 2015 and then charged about $5,000 to a credit card he stole from the victim.

Dyson claimed he performed sexual favors for the victim but stabbed him due to unwelcome sexual advances, police said.

Dyson was also found guilty of felony theft, theft of a credit card and two counts of use of a credit card.
