Mahendra Ro Samaroo
Nassau County Police Department

A Florida man could face jail time following his arrest in Long Island Sunday morning for driving drunk with his two young children in the car, police said.

Mahendra Ro Samaroo, 39, was driving his 2018 Dodge Caravan south on Glen Cove Road in East Hills around 1:30 a.m. when Nassau County cops allegedly saw him change lanes without signaling and struggle to stay within the lane.

When officers stopped Samaroo, his eyes were bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he reeked of alcohol — and he had two children in the back seat, Nassau County police said.

Samaroo, from Gotha, Fla., was charged with aggravated driving intoxicated per Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic violations, police said.

His children — an 8-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son — were uninjured and are in their mother’s care.

Samaroo was arraigned on Sunday afternoon, where bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. An order of protection was issued in favor of his children and his license was suspended, according to a spokesman for the Nassau County DA’s office.

He faces at least up to four years in prison if convicted, pursuant to Leandra’s Law.
