'If you don't drive I'm going to pop you!' West Price Hill man tries to escape arrest

Published 8:38 p.m. ET March 13, 2020

A West Price Hill man was arrested early Friday morning after police said he struck an officer and ran off, injuring two more officers in the process.

Ronald Williams, 27, approached a Cincinnati Police officer
on Spring Grove Avenue near Clifton Avenue during a crash investigation and punched him in the face, knocking the officer to the ground, according to court documents.

Williams was not involved in the crash.

After striking the officer, Williams fled into the Kroger parking lot on Kennard Avenue. According to police, two officers followed Williams and saw him try to get into a van with three occupants.

Court documents state Williams brandished a handgun and told the driver: "Drive, drive, drive. If you don't drive I'm going to pop you!"

While one of the officers attempted to remove Williams from the van, the driver accelerated in an attempt to get away from Williams. When the van moved, the officer struck his head on the van door and frame, the release states.

Williams was tasered and taken into custody. During the arrest, police said Williams head butted a third officer.

Two officers were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. The officer initially struck by Williams was taken as a precautionary measure and the officer injured during by the van door is being treated for facial lacerations, police said.
