17 guards hurt in latest brawl at Horizon Juvenile Center

Seventeen jail guards were injured in yet another brawl at the new Horizon Juvenile Center on Sunday, according to sources.

It’s the latest in a string of disturbing violent incidents at the Bronx juvie lockup, which has seen fights between inmates and guards being injured nearly every day since it began housing 16- and 17-year-olds who were moved off of Rikers Island. A state law requiring 16-year-olds to be treated as juveniles took effect Oct. 1.

State law forbids guards from using pepper spray on underage inmates, but the officers at Horizon say their hands are further tied because they are not allowed to carry handcuffs.

“They’re looking to kill us — what are we supposed to do shake their hands?” one source groused of the inmates.

But the kid-glove treatment apparently goes beyond how guards are equipped. Sources said the violent teens are given plush shower robes and even professionally cooked meals, rather than normal prison fare, which is typically prepared by fellow jailbirds.

An Administration for Children’s Services spokeswoman confirmed that teens are given the shower robes but would not comment on their food.

Guards do not carry handcuffs but have access to them, she said.

Last week, 20 officers there were hurt, with 11 sent to the hospital, trying to quell a massive hallway melee that was caught on video tape.
Those who find the truth hateful just hate hearing the truth.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.....on a nigger.

If you're not catching flak, you're not over the target.
