Guilty Verdict in 2015 Des Moines Murder, Attempted Murder Case
Posted 11:04 am, October 16, 2019

DES MOINES, Iowa – A Des Moines man was found guilty Tuesday in connection with a 2015 murder.

Court documents show a Polk County jury found 64-year-old Alf Freddie Clark Sr. guilty of first-degree murder in Tacono Conner’s death. He was also found guilty of attempted murder for the shooting of Amy Stolki and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Prosecutors say Clark shot Conner and Stolki in the hallway outside of Conner’s apartment at 5201 South Union on December 27th, 2015.

Clark disappeared just a few hours after the shooting and he wasn’t taken into custody until June of 2018, when a Federal Fugitive Task Force arrested him on a material witness warrant in Tucson, Arizona.

Clark’s trial began on Oct. 7th and the jury reached a verdict Tuesday.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 12th. The mandatory sentence for first-degree murder in Iowa is life in prison.

Homicide victim's son remembers 'loving and caring' father

Tacono Conner’s son remembers the last phone conversation he had with his father, hours before the Des Moines man was killed Sunday night.

“The last thing I told him was I loved him, and to stay out of trouble,” said Tacono Conner Jr., 15.

Tacono Conner, 36, was found shot to death in the hallway of an apartment complex in the 5200 block of South Union Street at 10:54 p.m. Sunday, according to a police news release.

Amy Stolki, 37, of Des Moines was also found with gunshot wounds, but she was expected to survive and is being treated at a hospital, police said.

The motive behind the shooting that killed Conner is still unclear, and police would not provide any other information Monday on events leading up to the shooting.

Neither Conner nor Stolki were residents of the apartment building, Parizek said. He could not provide any information on why they were in the apartment building.

Conner is also survived by a wife and two young children, said Tyrisha Mason, the mother of Conner’s two teenage sons.

Material witness in 2015 homicide faces murder charge

Authorities announced Monday that a material witness in a 2015 Des Moines homicide is in custody.

Des Moines police confirmed to KCCI that U.S. marshals arrested Alf Freddie Clark Friday on a material witness warrant in Tucson, Arizona.

Police said Clark was a material witnesses in the shooting death of Tacano Conner in Des Moines.

Conner, 36, died December 27, 2015, when he was shot at the Brookside Apartments in the 5200 block of South Union Street.

The Des Moines Police Department said a first-degree murder warrant has been issued for Clark.

Another gunshot victim, Amy Stolki, survived the incident.

Stolki underwent 17 surgeries due to her injuries and will likely breathe through a trachea tube for the rest of her life.

She said she became emotional after learning Clark was off the streets and no longer in hiding.

“I started crying,” she said. “I was overjoyed (and) overwhelmed. I started jumping up and down.”

Stolki said she is happy knowing she won’t have to look over her shoulder in fear that he might try to finish what he started.

“It’s been a long time coming,” she said. “It’s going on 2 1/2 years. His time has come. It is time for him to face what he has done.”
