Man fatally shot at funeral for his brother; second victim in critical condition
Updated: 10:36 AM EDT Sep 13, 2018

LANSDOWNE, Md.

A man was fatally shot at the funeral for his younger brother Wednesday afternoon, and another person is suffering life-threatening injuries, Baltimore County police said.

The shooting was reported at 12:43 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Cemetery
on Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne. Police closed Hollins Ferry Road between Daisy and Fifth avenues.

Police said cars arrived at the cemetery for a funeral and mourners were gathering at the grave site when a small group of men separated from the larger group. The ceremony was about to begin when gunfire rung out between the smaller group of men, officials said.

Police said two men suffered apparent gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Police and EMS officials responded around 12:45 p.m. and began treating the victims. One of the men, Maurice Brown Jr., 32, died at the scene, and the other person was taken to a hospital in critical condition. A third person complained of chest pain.

Police said the gunmen may have left the scene on foot, mixing in with the dispersing crowd, before making a getaway in a vehicle.

Surveillance video from Lucky Auto Repair across the street captured the crowd running for cover.

The service was being held for Maurice Brown's brother, Marcus Brown, 18, who was a victim of gun violence in the 1400 block of North Mount Street, officials said.
