2 arrested for leaving dogs to die in Lorain yard
Updated: 2:50 PM EDT September 12, 2018

LORAIN -- Police say two people were arrested in connection to the two dogs that were found starving in a yard last month.

Amanda Pippens, 34, and Morris Ellison, 36, face charges of cruelty to companion animals and abandoning animals.

A Washington Avenue resident reported the dogs Aug. 20 after finding one in her back yard. The pit bull had visible bones and was unable to stand or walk. The resident said she tried to give the dog food and water, but it couldn't stomach it.

The resident told police two people who lived next door had been evicted and moved out the night before. She also said that the residents had owned at least six dogs during their two years of living in the residence.

The dog appeared to have been left in the front yard, according to the report.

Police found a second emaciated pit bull a few houses down from the first. A resident told police the neighbors had thrown the dog outside while moving the night before.

Both dogs were taken to the Lorain Animal Clinic, where one later died.
