A 19-year-old man was arrested in the fatal shooting of a man who was found slumped over in his car after a botched drug deal Monday in northwest Dallas, police said.

Police found 22-year-old Jeremy Michael Averett with a chest wound around 11 p.m. in the 11600 block of Dennis Road. He died later at a hospital.

Eissa Yanouri-Roa is in Dallas County Jail and faces a murder charge in Averettís death. He, too, was injured, with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen and hip area, police said.

He refused to cooperate with investigators after he was released from the hospital. He was arrested Tuesday after a witness identified him from a photograph and knew his name and nickname, police said.

Bail had not yet been set. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a woman who was with the man who died gave police a description of the shooter. She said that she and the man were involved in a drug deal but didnít intend to rob the second man.

According to the arrest affidavit, the second man got into the manís car, which started moving. The second man told the driver to stop the car several times. Then both men pulled out weapons and began shooting.

On Monday, March 23, 2020, at approximately 10:58 p.m., patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 11600 block of Dennis Road. Upon officersí arrival, they found the victim, Jeremy Michael Averett, a 22-year old White male, slumped in the driversí seat with a gunshot wound to his upper right chest area. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
