DNA convicts man in armed sex assault cold case

A man was convicted Monday in Denver of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint, closing a cold case.
Damon Newman, 45, was convicted of one count of sexual assault with a weapon, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.
The attack happened in March 2011 as the victim was walking near Sloan’s Lake in the early morning.
The case was unsolved until October 2015, when Newman was identified as a suspect through DNA evidence.
