Teen dies hours after broad-daylight stabbing in Brooklyn: cops

A Brooklyn teen died early Tuesday from a vicious daylight stabbing in Midwood, and his murderer is still on the loose, police said.

Rohan Burke, 17, was stabbed shortly after 4 p.m. Monday at the corner of East 17th Street and Avenue M, cops said.

Burke and another man were seen squabbling nearby when the suspect suddenly plunged a blade into Burke’s chest, police said.

The man was then seen on surveillance footage fleeing, but not before passing the suspected weapon to a female companion, police sources said. She was later interviewed by police, but was not immediately charged.

After he was stabbed, the teen ran into a nearby restaurant, where he pleaded for help, according to PIX11.

Burke was rushed to Maimonides Hospital, where he was conscious and alert — and talking to investigators — before he went into surgery. But he died hours later around 1 a.m., the sources said.

The teen was a student at Lafayette High School, about three miles away in Bensonhurst, but he frequently skipped school and was classified as “long-term absent,” police sources said.

Police on Wednesday released photographs of a third person wanted for questioning in the fatal daylight stabbing of a 17-year-old in Brooklyn.

Photos depict the person of interest near the site of the Midwood slaying Monday wearing a hooded jacket and dark-colored pants with white stripes down the sides.

Additional details were not immediately available.

David Lopez, 17, was charged Wednesday afternoon with murder and criminal possession of a weapon for knifing Rohan Burke to death around 4 p.m. Monday near East 17th Street and Avenue M, police said.

Cops were providing media with photographs of the wanted man as reporters waited for Lopez to be transported to Brooklyn court for his arraignment.

Lopez and Burke were seen squabbling nearby when Lopez suddenly plunged a blade into his victim’s chest, police said.

Lopez’s mother, 38-year-old Barbara Galloza, was also hit with charges of tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution for allegedly disposing of the murder weapon following the stabbing. Police have still not recovered the knife.

Galloza was arraigned Wednesday morning and ordered held on $35,000 bond or $20,000 cash.

The teenager charged with fatally stabbing another teen boy on a Brooklyn street corner stayed mum Wednesday as he was walked from an area police station wearing handcuffs and the same tux he had on when he turned himself in the day before.

David Lopez, 17, said nothing as he was escorted by two detectives out of the 70th Precinct station house and placed in the back of an unmarked police vehicle.

Cops say Lopez plunged a knife into the chest of 17-year-old Rohan Burke Monday at 4 p.m. at the corner of East 17th Street and Avenue M in Midwood.

He gave himself up to police Tuesday clad in a dapper gray suit with black trim.

Lopez was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the slaying.

The suspect’s mother, 38-year-old Barbara Galloza, was charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence for allegedly hiding the murder weapon, which police have not recovered.

The mom of the teen accused of fatally stabbing a 17-year-old boy in Brooklyn was busted for taking the knife from her son following the attack, cops said.

Barbara Galloza, 38, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence for disposing of the knife her son allegedly used in Monday slaying, police said.

She was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal court on Wednesday morning and ordered held on $35,000 bond or $20,000 cash.

Galloza’s son, 17-year-old David Lopez, is accused of plunging the blade into the upper chest of Rohan Burke, also 17, around 4 p.m. Monday near East 17th Street and Avenue M in Midwood.

During Galloza’s arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Wilfredo Cotto said that the mom was standing nearby when Lopez allegedly stabbed the victim and “immediately grabbed the knife from the suspect’s hand.”

“The mother refused to admit that she took the knife, and refused to reveal the knife’s location,” Cotto said.

The knife has not been recovered by police.

Galloza’s defense attorney Adam Uris called the allegations “dubious…at best” in court, adding that Galloza “vehemently denies the allegations.”

“My client called 911 to report that an incident had occurred because her son had been attacked,” Uris said, adding that Galloza claims she was eating at a nearby restaurant when “her son came in to tell her.”

Galloza, a mother of five who lives in a Bronx homeless shelter with her 1-year-old child, has no criminal record, her lawyer said.

“She’s alleged to have removed a weapon – they’ve offered no basis of proof,” said Uris.

Police say Galloza is seen on surveillance video taking the knife, but Uris said he has not “been provided with any evidence at all, including the video.”

Galloza’s next court date is set for May 6.

Meanwhile, Lopez, who turned himself in at the 70th Precinct station house on Tuesday wearing a prom-style tuxedo, was charged Wednesday morning with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
