Man killed in gunfire exchange with Elmwood Place police identified

ELMWOOD PLACE, Ohio (FOX19) -
A man died Tuesday afternoon after exchanging fire with a police officer in the village of Elmwood Place, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office identified the victim as Rodney Arnez Barnes, 48.
The incident began as a traffic stop around 1:31 p.m, when an Elmwood Place police officer pulled Barnes over at Linden Street and Highland Avenue, the Elmwood Place police chief said.
After a brief encounter, according to the sheriff’s office,
the police officer and Barnes exchanged fire, and Barnes was struck.
Barnes was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died.
Barnes did not have a current home address and
was listed as a missing person after walking away from the University of Cincinnati Psychiatric Emergency Services, the sheriff’s office says.
He was also
wanted in Hamilton County on charges of aggravated robbery and having weapons under disability, according to the sheriff’s office.
