Homeless man punches woman on subway platform then bashes through train window

The subway train and the broken window on the train.

A deranged homeless man punched a woman on a lower Manhattan subway platform and jumped in front of an oncoming train — but he survived the apparent suicide attempt by crashing through a front window, police and MTA officials said Friday.

Jeremy Gonzalez, 29, was at the Chambers Street A/C/E station Thursday around 11 p.m. when he inexplicably began yelling in Spanish at the victim, a 23-year-old woman, cops said.

As a train pulled in, Gonzalez sucker-punched her in the back of the head. The woman fell to the ground, injuring her hand, and Gonzalez ran toward an approaching Brooklyn-bound A train.

Gonzalez then “flew through the air” toward the door at the very front of the train as it pulled into the station, NYC Transit President Andy Byford said at an unrelated news conference Friday.

Gonzalez smashed through the door’s window, shattering its glass as he fell onto the stunned female train operator.

“Obviously, a bizarre incident, but I’m appalled by the fact that the person punched a rider, unprovoked, and then did something as stupid and reckless as to throw himself at a train and end up crashing through the storm door,” Byford said. “Understandably, our operator was completely shocked.

“It’s inexplicable to me, why someone would have done that,” Byford said.

Cops have not yet determined why Gonzalez leaped into the train, though a high-ranking police source said, “there’s a good chance he was trying to kill himself.”

Responding officers had not yet reached the scene when Gonzalez jumped in front of the train, so it didn’t appear he was fleeing arrest, the source said.

Officers apprehended Gonzalez at the station around 11:45 p.m. He has been charged criminal mischief, assault and disorderly conduct and was taken to Bellevue Hospital with head injuries.

The woman was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital with bruising to her face.

Twenty-seven trains were impacted, mostly rerouted onto the F line, with normal service resumed after 76 minutes, according to the MTA.

Those who find the truth hateful just hate hearing the truth.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.....on a nigger.

If you're not catching flak, you're not over the target.
