Arrest report: Couple stabbed, tied up rideshare driver before stealing car

Tuesday, September 22nd 2020

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) A couple stabbed and tied up the man who had been driving them around Mesquite for several days before taking his car, according to an arrest report.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a man who was stabbed and had his car stolen early Thursday morning near the Love's truck stop just outside Las Vegas, the report states.

The driver told police that he was driving around a couple in Mesquite who were in town for their honeymoon because their car broke down.

During one drive, the male passenger stabbed the driver in the area of his neck and shoulder, according to the report. The man ordered the driver to the back seat and had the woman tie his hands together.

The male passenger began driving the car and took them to the truck stop, where the driver was able to get his hands free and jump out, police write.

The couple drove off, leaving the driver with several injuries, including "a severe laceration to the back of his head which required multiple staples to close," according to the report.

Later in the morning, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper found the stolen car on U.S. 93 near the Coyote Springs exit. The two people inside, identified as Chantilly Farmer and Devonte Roberson, were taken into custody, with a large amount of blood on Roberson's shirt.

LVMPD interviewed the two, and they claimed the driver made prior sexual advances toward Farmer, who told Roberson about it during the ride.

"Devonte said that while they were traveling back, he noticed that [the driver] was looking at Chantilly through the rearview mirror," the report states. "Devonte became upset with this, so he decided to stab Charles in the right shoulder."

Both Roberson and Farmer face multiple charges, including battery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and grand larceny auto.
