Police: Naked, Barking Man Stole SUV then Assaulted Des Moines Officers
Posted 8:43 am, March 15, 2019

DES MOINES, Iowa Police arrested a naked man Friday morning they say stole a car and assaulted officers while he tried to escape.

Twenty-nine-year-old Diamond Dolo is facing two counts of assault on a peace officer causing injury and two counts of first degree theft in the case.

The incident began at 7:38 a.m. in the Beaverdale neighborhood. Sgt. Paul Parizek says police were called to the 3200 block of 30th Street after someone noticed a naked man, later identified as Dolo, on the roof and was concerned about his welfare. Before police arrived, he came down from the roof and stole an SUV. Witnesses told police it appeared Dolo was on drugs and had been barking like a dog.

While officers searched for the SUV they received a call about someone matching the suspect's description in front of an apartment building in the 5200 block of Twana Drive. The callers said the man was confronting residents and barking like a dog.

When officers arrived they say Dolo assaulted them, attempted to steal a police vehicle, and led them on a foot chase through the neighborhood. He went through backyards and over fences to get away.

Dolo was tased twice during the incident, but he wasn't affected.

He was finally taken into custody at 8:14 a.m. in the 5000 block of Twana Drive.

Medics were called out to the scene because two officers and Dolo were injured. Police say the officers suffered minor injuries and were receiving treatment at a Des Moines hospital.

Dolo had wounds from taser deployment and scratches from climbing over fences. He was treated and is being transported to the Polk County Jail. Police say he did tell them he had been using illegal narcotics before the incident.
