‘It’s Real Life’: Slew Of Shootings, Several Homicides In Violent Start To Labor Day Weekend In Philadelphia
August 31, 2019 at 6:12 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Authorities say a slew of shootings, including several homicides, have the holiday weekend off to a violent start in Philadelphia. Police say gunfire shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday in the Hunting Park neighborhood of north Philadelphia killed a 25-year-old man and a 31-year-old man and wounded two other men listed in stable condition.

“It’s what’s really happening. It’s real life,” Luciana Ramirez, who lives in the neighborhood, said. “This is normal for me because I live here and it’s becoming normal for the kids that are growing up here, but it’s fixable.”

A double shooting at about 10:45 p.m. Friday in Southwest Philadelphia killed one woman and critically wounded another.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday in West Philadelphia, a 32-year-old man was found in a vehicle with gunshot wounds. He later died at a hospital.

A Northeast Philadelphia shooting critically injured a man, and victims were listed in stable condition after shootings in South and Southwest Philadelphia.

No arrests were reported in any of the shootings.

Man Killed, 2 Women Critically Injured In Kensington Triple Shooting
By CBS3 Staff
September 30, 2019 at 9:45 am

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Three people were gunned down in Philadelphia’s Kensington section overnight. Police are now on the hunt for the shooter who killed one man and left two women critically injured.

Gunshots rang out just before 3 a.m. Monday on D Street and Indiana Avenue.

Police say the victims were standing near a red car when a gunman opened fire on them.

“Real-time crime cameras did capture the victims all standing around a red vehicle. At one point, you see one of the female victims actually in the red vehicle and then she exits the red vehicle and that’s when the shooting occurs,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

A male victim died at the scene and two women are in critical condition. Eyewitness News was there as police rushed the victims to the hospital.

Police say nearby surveillance cameras captured the shooting, and hopefully, that will lead them to the suspect.

“The description we have of the shooter is a male wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt , last seen running west on Indiana from D Street,” said Small.

So far, there is no motive for the shooting.

Violent Night In Philadelphia Leaves 1 Dead, 5 Injured As Police See Rise In Homicides
By Dan Koob
October 2, 2019 at 6:01 am

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A violent night in Philadelphia ends with five people shot and one person dead. Now, police are investigating after several suspects opened fire in three separate shootings.

All three shootings happened within an hour and a half of each other. Beginning just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in West Oak Lane, at least 10 bullets were fired in a deadly double shooting. A man was shot in the lower back and killed.

“The 35-year-old victim who died at Einstein Hospital was found just feet away from the front step of his home,” Philadelphia Police Chief Scott Small said.

Just 58 minutes later, a man was shot in Point Breeze on the 2200 block of Watkins Street. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Then just before midnight, three more people were shot in North Philadelphia. All are in stable condition.

“When they arrived on the 1800 block of Judson, there were multiple people running away from the scene. There were three lying on the road and on the highway,’ Small said.

Four guns in total were recovered from the three shootings, including three semi-automatic weapons in North Philly, police said.

The city now has 256 homicides in 2019, according to police. That number is 2% higher at this point in the year than it was in 2018.
