Default Bassaballa tries to carjack unmarked cop car after shootout with cops

Suspect in S.C. police shooting, chase found dead identified

January 3, 2021 at 7:59 PM EST
CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. - The man multiple South Carolina law enforcement agencies searched for Sunday evening after allegedly leading officers on a chase and shooting at them was found dead.

According to the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster County deputies were responding to a domestic violence call when they say the suspect, identified Monday as Tre-Kedrian Tyquan White, fired shots at deputies. The time of the original call has not been released.

A chase then led into Chester County, where White wrecked his car. Officials say he was walking down the road when he flagged down what turned out to be an unmarked police car. Officials say White then began to shoot at Chester County deputies responding to the call.

A Chester County Sheriff’s Office deputy then fired his weapon at White, officials say.

Officials say White then took off, resulting in a multi-agency search. Lancaster Sheriff’s Office, Great Falls Police Department, Fort Lawn Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol and SLED joined Chester County Sheriff’s Office in the search, which took place in the area of ATI on Highway 9 and Lewisville High around 7 p.m.

Officials say White was found dead about an hour later in the woods. The cause of death is still under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.

SLED is assisting in the investigation. This was the first officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2021.
