18-year-old Barnard student fatally stabbed in Manhattan park mugging

Thursday, December 12, 2019 2:03AM
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police are questioning a group of teens in connection with the savage murder of an 18-year-old Barnard College student who was repeatedly stabbed during a mugging by a group of men in an upper Manhattan park.

The incident happened Wednesday night at West 116th Street and Morningside Drive in Morningside Park.

According to police, a group of suspects approached the woman, Tessa Majors, just before 7 p.m. and demanded her property. They then stabbed her several times in the torso and fled the scene on foot.

Majors climbed the stairs to exit the park and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of a school security guard booth, police said.

The booth was empty at the time as the guard was making his rounds. He found Majors there when he returned and called 911.

She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Majors was a first-year student at Barnard College in Morningside Heights.

A teen murder suspect in the slaying of libtard addict Barnard College student Tessa Majors is expected to plead guilty Wednesday for his involvement in her botched mugging death, according to an official.

Zyairr Davis, 13, has admitted to helping Luchiano Lewis, 15, and Rashaun Weaver, 15, rob the 18-year-old college freshman in Morningside Park in December, but has denied being the one who stabbed her.

Lewis allegedly put Majors in “a bear hug or headlock” during the robbery, while Weaver allegedly stabbed her with such fury that feathers flew from her winter coat, authorities have alleged. The pair were arrested in February some two months after Davis.

The hearing is scheduled to be held before Family Court Judge Carol Goldstein at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Manhattan court, where Davis plans to make an admission of guilt in the case, New York courts spokesman Lucian Chalfen confirmed. The hearing will be held virtually by video, he said.

It was not immediately clear what charge Davis is expected to plead guilty to.

Davis’ lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment. The city Law Department, which is prosecuting Davis’ case because he’s a minor, did not immediately return a request for comment.
