Default Shooting by negro at New Year's Eve party in Schriever, LA leaves WM, 18 dead, another injured

Shooting at New Year's Eve party in Schriever leaves one dead, another injured, authorities say

A 20-year-old was arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a Nicholls State University student and left another seriously injured at a New Year's Eve party in Schriever, authorities said.

Eric Thibodaux, a freshman from Larose, was killed in the shooting, according to an email Nicholls officials sent to students and staff.

Kamron Kajon Jacquot was arrested on warrants for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said.

Police and court records show Jacquot had a recent address in Bayou Blue, but authorities said he no longer lived there.

“This investigation is still ongoing, and we still need anyone who has information to contact us,” Sheriff Tim Soignet said in a news release. “I am extremely proud of the teamwork between our detectives and uniformed patrol deputies, which resulted in this apprehension. I also wish to thank the Houma Police Department for their assistance.”

Deputies responded about 1:40 a.m. Friday to a report of a shooting the 200 block of Jolie Oaks Boulevard, Soignet said. Deputies and detectives learned several people had been involved in a fight at the party. A gun was drawn, and numerous shots were fired at the victims.

Two people were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff's Office said. The injured person, who authorities said is a 20-year-old male and a student at Nicholls, was not named.

Thibodaux later died from his injuries, authorities said.
