WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY – Police are searching for a man who robbed a bank in West Hempstead Saturday afternoon. Police are looking for Romell Nellis, who was arrested last month on charges of robbing two banks in December. He was released from jail without bail under the state's new bail reform law.

Police say Nellis, who is homeless, entered the Roslyn Savings Bank at 50 Hempstead Turnpike at 1:30 p.m. He approached the teller, passed a note stating he had a gun and demanding money, police said.

The teller complied and Nellis fled southbound on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

There were six employees inside the bank at the time of the robbery. There were no reported injuries.

Nellis robbed the same bank on Dec. 17, police said. There are active warrants for his arrest.
