Default Nashville WF nurse, 26 shot dead on way to work by the negro

Man arrested in fatal shooting death of Nashville nurse Caitlyn Kaufman

Nashville police announced Friday that they arrested a man in connection with last week's fatal shooting of Nashville nurse Caitlyn Kaufman.

Devaunte Lewis Hill, 21
, was taken into custody at 6:15 a.m. Friday by Metro Nashville Police Department SWAT team members, police Chief John Drake said. He was arrested at his East Nashville home in Berkshire Place Apartments.

Hill faces charges including criminal homicide in Kaufman's Dec. 3 death on Interstate 440 in Nashville. Homicide Detective Christopher Dickerson said they have not ruled out the possibility of more suspects or arrests to come.

The detective said Hill was a stranger to Kaufman.

"I can confirm they did not know each other," Dickerson told reporters during a news conference at MNPD headquarters.

Kaufman, a nurse at St. Thomas West Hospital, worked the midnight shift in the intensive care unit. She died shortly after dusk Dec. 3 after at least six shots were fired into her car as she drove to work along I-440 westbound, police said.

Just before 9 p.m., a Metro Parks officer said he saw her Mazda CX-5 SUV on the right shoulder of I-440 near the West End Avenue exit. It was against the guard rail so police said he stopped, thinking it was a single-car crash.

Kaufman was dead at the scene after being shot one time in the shoulder, police said.
