CUNY professor claims he was unfairly fired after telling committee to ‘burn in eternal fires’

A highly-educated CUNY economics professor claims he was wrongly fired because he was rude.

When Associate Professor Caf Dowlah, a Fulbright Scholar with three advanced degrees , was denied a promotion to a full-time teaching slot last year, he blamed a colleague, bizarrely telling her, “what you did to me was not only acquitting the killers of Eric Garner but also justifying his death for selling contraband cigarettes.”

When he was reprimanded for his “rude, inappropriate and disrespectful” missive, Dowlah claimed he was justified because the coworker “treated [him] like a dog” and was racist.

He followed that up with an email to the committee which had rejected his promotion bid, telling them, “your juvenile indiscretion brought me to my knees, you made me feel like a piece of dirt … you ruined my life forever … I damn you all to hell — may your bodies and souls burn in eternal fires.”

He signed off, “Not a proud colleague of yours.”

Dowlah was then terminated for “conduct unbecoming,” and an arbitrator later upheld the decision. The professor is now suing to overturn the arbitrator’s ruling, claiming it was “irrational.”
