NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) Two people are in critical condition after being attacked at a Public Storage facility near downtown.

Police say Kelvin Edwards, 35, attacked husband and wife Kevin and Leanne Craft with a machete inside the 800 5th Avenue South building Sunday around 2:45 p.m.

Officers describe the attack as "callous, unprovoked, and random." The Crafts are in critical condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Police say Edwards, who is homeless, got the machete from his bin at the facility. In an in interview with detectives, he expressed anger about the COVID-19 shutdowns and an inability to get into the Rescue Mission.

Edwards surrendered to officers as they approached the scene. He has a record of felony vandalism and assault. He is now charged with two counts of attempted murder.
