According to the police report, the victim flew from Chicago to Memphis to buy the 2014 Lexus GS50 that he won in an auction on eBay Motors. He met two men, later identified as Colton Cathey and Tyrone Nichols, near the airport and bought the car for $26,000.

The victim drove the car back to Chicago, but noticed the engine wasn't working properly. He then took the Lexus to a dealership in Illinois and learned the VIN number on the car's dashboard didn't match the VIN on its firewall. Chicago Police Department said the car was stolen.:p

The victim gave Memphis Police Department the eBay account information for Cathey and Nichols.

When police officers searched Cathey's home, Cathey told detectives the 2015 Dodge Challenger in the driveway was his. However, detectives learned it was reported stolen out of Arkansas.

Cathey is a tattoo artist who made local headlines in February 2016 after being pulled over in Bartlett for driving without headlights. He only received a warning, but said he got pulled over because he was a black man driving a nice car.

Cathey recorded part of the traffic stop. In the recording, you can hear the officer ask Cathey, "What do you sell? Weed, man? Cocaine?"

Cathey said he's often unfairly profiled for driving his nice cars.

"Black people can be successful in other things other than drugs, sports and rapping,"
Cathey said in February. "Just can't judge a book by its cover."

Now, that same man is accused of stealing cars and selling them online.
