The total Jewish population of Arizona in the 1880s was estimated at about 50 people, so the numbers in Tucson must have been fewer.
"A number of men from the city's pioneer Jewish families … could be found in elected political positions: on the school board, on the county Board of Supervisors and even as mayor." Jews in territorial Tucson were also miners, bankers and prominent in the entertainment business.
Brothers Philip Drachman (1833-1889) and Samuel Drachman (1837-1911) were among the earliest Jews to settle in Tucson.

Say Racism’s Name, And Fight It With Solidarity

By Danny Haiphong, Black Agenda Report.
October 22, 2020 | Strategize!

Black Lives Matter is the internal enemy while China is considered the most dangerous foe to U.S. hegemony.
“Anti-China and anti-Black racism are intimately connected.”
The following remarks were given at Stand Up to Racism’s International Conference on October 17th entitled “Black Lives Matter Vs Trump: A Decisive Moment in the International Anti-Racist Movement.”
The instability of Trump’s presidency and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement have upset the U.S. power structure. White supremacist groups such as the Proud Boys and the Boogaloo Movement have increased in number and visibility to protect the right of white America to the historic spoils of stolen land and stolen labor. These groups have found their Great White Hope in Donald Trump and his many appeals to keep them safe from Black Americans, immigrants, and oppressed nations all over the world. Equally troubling has been massive counterinsurgency campaign to smother the movement against racism in its crib.
The U.S. crusade against Black Lives Matter is enabled by the very forces supposedly monitoring white nationalist groups and organizations in the United States. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been praised for protecting Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer from a white terrorist plot. Yet the FBI was a leading force in the repression of Black Freedom fighters such as Marcus Garvey and Claudia Jones as well as Black Freedom organizations such as the Black Panther Party. Beginning in 2014, the FBI monitored activists in Ferguson and would later target them as “Black Identity Extremists.” Fertile ground was thus laid for a surge in white nationalism embodied by Donald Trump.
The enablers of white nationalism are numerous within the halls of power. Police officers are top recruits of white nationalist organizations. The U.S. military has stoked Trump’s anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant racism by destabilizing the planet with endless war. Trump is a member of the same class of corporate thieves that called Black Americans “mud people” as they were sold “ghetto loans” in the lead up to the economic collapse in 2008. Trump’s “****hole country” comment was made possible by the West’s continued neocolonial plunder of Africa.
Racism is a necessary precondition for keeping the U.S. at the top of a global capitalist order built on centuries of colonialism, slavery, and genocide. Activists from around the world expressed solidarity with Black Lives Matter for this reason. The keyword here is global. Racism is a global ideology and a global system of oppression. A massive wave of anti-China sentiment has swept across the U.S. and its allies to expose both the global character of racism and the dire need for international solidarity.
Anti-China and anti-Asian racism are nothing new. The brutal U.S. invasion of the Philippines, the U.S.’ internment of Japanese residents during World War II, and the genocidal wars in Korea and Vietnam all possessed racist justifications. Anti-China racism intensified in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic as the U.S. and its allies moved swiftly to blame their ills on China.
Trump has repeatedly called COVID-19 the “China virus” to cover up his role in the deaths of over 200,000 people. Sanctions have been leveled against Chinese officials and tech companies. Chinese college students have been targeted as potential communist insurgents and forced to transfer from school or return to China. The U.S. military’s “Pivot to Asia” has accelerated under Trump. His administration is now trying to rally Japan, India, and other countries in the region to join the military encirclement of China. These are just some of the policies that have soured U.S.-China relations and threatened the safety of Chinese and Asian American communities living in the United States.
“Racism is a global ideology and a global system of oppression.”
Anti-China and anti-Black racism are intimately connected. (they mean Communism) The same U.S. political and economic elite waging a multifaceted assault on Black Lives Matter has blamed China for everything from the pandemic to the global economic crisis. Black Lives Matter is the internal enemy while China is considered the most dangerous foe to U.S. hegemony. A similar dynamic occurred during the first Cold War. The U.S. desperately wanted to hide its Jim Crow terrorism from international eyes yet relied upon white supremacist organizations such as the John Birch Society to demonize the Black Freedom movement as a Soviet plot. (it was)
Racism is just as antithetical to human progress now as it was then. Police accountability is antagonistic to the interests of the wealthy who see the police as their loyal protectors. China’s enormous economy and global leadership on the problems of poverty, climate change, and COVID-19 threatens the interests of a society dependent upon military force to maintain superpower status.
“Say Their Name” has become an increasingly popular means of reinforcing the humanity of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the many Black Americans killed by the police each year in the United States. Let Black Lives Matter be the first step in building a global movement that says racism’s name and fights it with solidarity. Racism lies at the roots of two of the biggest questions confronting humanity: whether to support Black Lives Matter and oppose U.S.-led escalations toward China that have deepened anti-China antipathy. The answer appears easy, but the path forward is difficult. Full solidarity must be given to Black Lives Matter. Anti-China racism must be rejected without hesitation. How we express and act on these principles should be the only thing up for debate.

NOVEMBER 7 & 8 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/black-p...s-117137301823

Thousands of black people around the U.S. will march on the White House with the demand for Black Power!

About this Event

Sat, Nov 7, 2020, 10:00 AM – Sun, Nov 8, 2020, 5:30 PM EST

The Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations (BiBC) is calling on colonized and unrepresented people of the U.S. to join us November 6-8 for the Black Power Matters march on the white house opposing the reactionary U.S. agenda being imposed on Africans and others within the U.S. and around the world.
Millions of people within the U.S. have been pushed out of legitimate political life by the rulers of this country. The two ruling parties have both put on their ritual shows called conventions, formally nominating their respective representatives for U.S. president and unveiling their two tame programs that represent the interests of one single white colonial-capitalist ruling class.
More and more people have come to the conclusion that neither the Republican nor the Democratic Party represents the will of the people. However, most people feel that there is no other option than to vote for one or the other.
Many people, especially Africans, are being mobilized to vote because they are afraid of Donald J. Trump, the sitting Republican Party representative of the ruling class.
No matter what is exposed about the corruption and reactionary politics of Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden, many can see no alternative to “holding their nose” and voting for him in opposition to Trump’s reelection. This is despite Biden’s defining role in increasing the prison population in the U.S. by 500 percent which, with the help of the Clintons and others, contributes to the mass incarceration of African people to the point that one in eight prisoners in the world is an African in the U.S.
The fact that Biden played a major role in unleashing the current version of police terror reigning supreme in our communities with his infamous “Crime Bill” is outweighed by fear of a re-elected Republican Trump regime. The fact that Biden’s chosen running mate, Kamala Harris has won the hearts of U.S. rulers as their enthusiastic top prosecutor in California, ruthlessly filling prison cells with Africans and other oppressed and working people is minimized by an assumption that voters are being forced to elect the “lesser of two evils.”
Our Call to march on the White House on November 8th is designed to give coherence to the great discord that has been experienced in the U.S. over the recent years, months, and weeks. Millions of you who have never participated in protest in the past have come out to the streets in protest and outright rebellion because the nature of the colonial-capitalist system is being exposed in bold relief daily.
Outright police murder of African people can no longer be ignored and tolerated by many. The colonialist-capitalist system is becoming increasingly terrifying in the middle of a pandemic where healthcare, like automobiles and refrigerators are commodities only available to the rich and where the colonized bear the brunt of the crisis.
The capitalist economy, based on profit and private ownership of the means of production, cannot provide security for the people. Joblessness with unproductive and underpaid employment is the order of the day and no empty promise of $15.00 per hour over a number of years can ever begin to address the crisis for the oppressed. Meanwhile trillions of public dollars are being shoveled into the coffers of Wall Street and the U.S. ruling class
U.S. cities are being transformed by entire communities of homeless refugees living demoralizing lives of despair beneath highway underpasses where if they are lucky the city might pass out tents to qualifying wretches as if to ameliorate the results of ruthless gentrification that is too common in African and other colonized communities. An estimated 40 million people in the U.S. are facing eviction before the end of this year and thousands of cars line up daily across the country to receive meager supplies from food giveaways.
At the same time, the U.S. government of both parties is waging wars around the world in a desperate attempt to maintain its role as despotic hegemon.
U.S. special operations forces are initiating coups and engaging in other bloody, mostly secret counterinsurgent activities throughout the Continent of Africa. They assault Africa confidently based on the assumption of no opposing constituency within the U.S. and because the two ruling parties represent a single white ruling class that is united in preserving the system and U.S. world domination.
The Democratic Party has not voiced a single word of opposition to the starvation sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe and Venezuela or the low intensity warfare against the government of Iran currently occurring under the Trump Republican regime.
Both ruling parties attempt to divert the people’s criticism of the domestic colonial military forces commonly referred to as police. Trump and Biden oppose even minor, cosmetic changes such as the symbolic call to “defund the police.” They both liquidate the role of the police as an arm of the state with the proclamation that the majority of the police are honest, good people.
Both Trump and Biden refuse to call for Black Community Control of Police as the logical interim movement to minimize police violence against black people while negating the colonial domination of our people. Neither of them acknowledges the existence of the political prisoners, many of whom have been locked up for generations for fighting against the unjust colonial system that is finally coming into public view for many.
Despite the thousands of protests that have come to characterize this period, it is clear that the voices of the most dynamic sector of the population in the U.S. was not at the Republican or Democratic Party conventions and will never reach the agenda of either party.
Despite all the efforts being made to criminalize the ongoing independent mass expression of opposition to the current Trump regime and the existing system, the struggle continues, as it must.
This Call by the Black is Back Coalition is a call to bring a coherent message of dissent. It is a Call to give collective leadership to the spontaneity that has characterized much of our opposition up to now.
The Black is Back Coalition has a National Black Political Agenda for Self-determination that pre-dates the 2016 election of Donald J. Trump and the fantastic protest and uprisings of today.
The National Black Political Agenda that was forged during months of a democratic process with conventions in 11 states and the District of Columbia that culminated in a National Convention for Self-determination in Washington, DC during the Democratic Party Obama regime.
This is a Call by the Coalition for a massive turnout in November for the Black Power Matters March that also directs us to fight against colonialism and for Black Community Control of the Police.
This is a Call that puts the people in charge, as it should be, regardless of which ruling class party or representative is in office. Regardless of whether you feel compelled by necessity to vote for Biden and Harris or to refrain from voting at all in the presidential election, this is a Call to you to help shape our own independent agenda.
This is a Call to cast your vote on November 6-8 with your presence at the Black is Back Coalition mobilization. Because Black Power Matters! Down With Colonialism! Black Community Control of the Police!
Register for the Black People’s March on the White House! November 6-8, 2020

We Need All Our Voices Speaking Out Against Amy Coney Barrett
September 26, 2020
It was just over a week ago that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away after a lifetime of serving her country, advocating for equal justice under law.
Earlier today, Donald Trump announced his Supreme Court nominee — a nominee that has no interest in equal justice under law.
The right to our bodies. The right to choose. LGBTQ rights. Access to affordable health care. Civil rights and equality — it’s all at stake.
One of the worst stances of Judge Amy Coney Barrett is that she’s anti-Brown v Board of Education — she openly and firmly believes that the Supreme Court case that desegregated our schools was wrongly decided.
[LIES - Barrett stated it was a "super-precedent & never would be reversed"]
We all know what’s coming — Donald Trump is going to try and rush the nomination process to further his dangerous agenda. The worst part about it? This is a lifetime appointment. A lifetime appointment of an openly misogynistic and racist judge.
We need all voices speaking out — will you pledge to use yours to oppose Amy Coney Barrett and her eleventh-hour appointment to the Supreme Court?

Black man finessed his way into the presidency of a neo-Nazi group, now vows to destroy it

According to Complex, James Hart Stern, a 54-year-old Black pastor and activist from California, has infiltrated and become the president of the National Socialist Movement, one of the largest and most notorious neo-Nazi groups in America. In a recent interview with CNN, he explained his motivations: “As a black man, I took over a neo-Nazi group and outsmarted them.” The pastor went on to explain that he ultimately wanted to “change (the organization), reverse it, and ultimately destroy it.”

The former leader of the National Socialist Movement, Jeff Schoep, was a noted racist who led the group for over 20 years.
Stern explained to the Washington Post that his rise through the ranks of the group involved manipulating and persuading leadership. According to Stern’s account, Schoep appointed him as the leader while there were a lot of internal issues among key members of the group. Schoep’s move was supposed to protect the NSM from a lawsuit naming charging the with “unlawful conspiracy” during the 2017 Charlottesville riots, which resulted in the death of Heather Heyer and multiple charges of assault for many Black people who were defending themselves from the angry white mobs.
Schoep attempted to explain what happened in a letter to other members of the group claiming that Stern had tricked him: “(Stern) convinced me that in order to protect our membership from the ongoing lawsuit, I should sign over NSM’s presidency to him.”
This is not Stern’s first time infiltrating a white supremacist organization, while he was serving time for mail fraud, Stern convinced a Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard named Edgar Ray Killen to give him power of attorney over his estate. Killen agreed, and Stern then used the legal powers to dismantle the Klan branch that Killen held in his name.

Stern’s first official action as NSM president was to ask that a Virginia judge find the group guilty of conspiring to incite violence at the Charlottesville riots. Stern also has plans to transform the group’s website into a place for Holocaust history lessons.
Stern hopes that others will follow his lead. As Stern told Complex, “I expect every minority, Jewish and black, which has been affected by it… to contact me and reach out so we can put our heads together and make sure that this is done productively.”

James Hart Stern

James Hart Stern
BornJune 13, 1964
Los Angeles, California
DiedOctober 11, 2019 (aged 55)
Moreno Valley, California
James Hart Stern (June 13, 1964 – October 11, 2019)[1] was an African American Baptist minister, civil rights activist, speaker, and author from Los Angeles, California. He was most well known for his work defusing gang violence through a series of summits in the 1980s and 1990s and for his incarceration with Edgar Ray Killen, the former KKK leader who was convicted of the 1964 Mississippi Burning murders.

Early life and education
Stern grew up in Watts, a Los Angeles neighborhood. The son of working-class parents, Stern was part of the thriving black community in South Central Los Angeles. His father was a member of the Ethiopian Jewish community, though his mother was a devout Christian. As a teenager, he honed his public speaking skills and apprenticed as a pastor in Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church under the tutelage of the well respected Reverend Frederick Douglas Ferrell. Reverend Ferrell had been the first black pastor elected to the California State Assembly, representing the 55th District from 1963-1966.[2] Stern's close relationship with his mentor was a formative part of his later entry into the ministry and into activism. He would become a Junior Deacon under Ferrell, eventually speaking at his funeral in 1982 when Stern was just 18 years old.
Ministry and advocacy
After the passing of Ferrell, Stern found a new mentor in the man who took over Ferrell's position as head pastor of the Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church, Charles Mims.[3] The men developed a close relationship, and it was under Mims that Stern followed his vocation into the ministry. During his late teens and early twenties, Stern studied at both New Providence Theological Seminary and at Grace Bible Institute in Long Beach, California. After four years of study and apprenticeship, he was ordained in 1986 at the age of 22.
Through his work as a pastor, Stern was embroiled in the street level ramifications of gang violence. To make a change for his parishioners and for his community, Stern organized a series of gang summits starting in 1988 to facilitate communication and decrease the violence. Gang leaders from Watts, Crenshaw, Compton, and South-Central Los Angeles met in secret locations to participate in the meetings. In August 1988, more than fifty gang members from the Bloods and the Crips stood on the steps of Los Angeles Court House with Reverend Stern and pledged to create a collective of "silent warriors" in an attempt to put a stop to the needless deaths.
In 1992, Stern founded Hands Across Watts, an organization whose mission it was to create a strong foundation for underprivileged youth in housing projects including Imperial Courts, Nickerson Gardens, and Jordan Down. Stern partnered with the members of the Bloods and the Crips for Hands Across Watts, all with the hope of preserving the truce forged in the previous gang summits.
Following the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, Stern organized a meeting between eighty-five gang leaders and the Korean-American Grocers Association (KAGRO). On May 26, 1992, the summit came together in a local hotel. The outcome was a truce between the two groups, abating some of the racial tension that had fueled the riots.
In 2007, Stern was convicted on five counts of wire fraud. He had been the chief executive officer of the L.A. National Association of Cosmetology, an organization that handled electronic funds transfers (EFTs) and automated clearing house payments (ACH). Several employees skimmed money off the top of the transfers and implicated Stern in their scheme. Stern signed a plea deal for 25 years in prison, on the promise that he would be able to appeal. Throughout the process, Stern maintained his innocence on all charges throughout his incarceration.[4]
Stern was extradited to Mississippi due to many of the charges against him originating from victims in The Magnolia State.
Stern was released from prison on November 8, 2011.
He founded Racial Reconciliation Ministries, an organization dedicated to promoting conversations between people of all races and resolving the wounds of racial conflict. Speaking and working with groups across the country, Stern speaks out on issues of race and coordinates with members of a wide variety of organizations.
Stern's biography, Mississippi Still Burning (From Hoods to suits), was published in 2018 by One Human Race Inc and co-authored by North Carolina writer Autumn Karen (as Autumn K. Robinson).[5] Stern resided in Moreno Valley and was the CEO/President of Racial Reconciliation Outreach Ministries Inc. a 501 C.3. Non Profit organization and One Human Race Inc.

National Socialist Movement
On February 28, 2019, the Associated Press reported that, according to Michigan corporate records, Stern had replaced Jeff Schoep as the leader of the National Socialist Movement, a long-standing white nationalist organization, in January of that year. Schoep had sought out legal advice from Stern and signed over the organization to him as part of an attempt to reform.[6] Stern said at the time that he wanted to use his position to undermine the group. Stern filed documents with a Federal court in Virginia, asking that it issue a judgment against the NSM before one of the Unite the Right rally-related lawsuits pending against the group went to trial.[7]

Stern died of cancer at his home on October 11, 2019, at the age of 55.[8]
