Man Charged With Murder at Lincoln County Motel
Aug 1, 2018

First-degree murder charges have been filed in the death of a Union woman.

Rico T. Clark, 27, was indicted by a Lincoln County Grand Jury in the death of Megan M. Moody, 29.

In addition to the murder charge, Clark also was charged with armed criminal action, a felony.

Clark was arraigned Wednesday, Aug. 1. in front of Lincoln County Presiding Circuit Judge Chris Kunza Mennemeyer.

Moody, who also went by the name Megan Clark, was found dead in a Lincoln County motel Sunday, July 1. Her body was found at the Elsberry Motel and Lodge with multiple gunshot wounds.:guns::guns::guns:

The Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department investigated the death and ruled it a murder.

During the initial investigation, Major Case Squad Deputy Commander Capt. Don Thurman, with the St. Charles police, said detectives were in Union looking for information and interviewing friends and neighbors of the victim.

“This does not appear to be random,” he said. “We are looking at various people.”

According to a probable cause statement filed in the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office by Union police, Moody was the victim of a third-degree domestic assault May 13 in the 400 block of Brown Street, Union.

Rico Clark was charged days after Moody was found dead in Franklin County Associate Circuit Court with third-degree domestic assault.

According to the probable cause statement in the domestic incident, a witness reported hearing a woman scream for help. The witness also told police they saw a man throw the woman into a window.

The witness said the victim screamed again and the man covered her mouth with his hands, authorities allege. The witness said Clark then pulled the woman away from the window and turned off the lights, according to the probable cause statement.

When police arrived and questioned Moody, she said she had been in an argument with the suspect. She said the argument was only verbal.

The woman eventually told police Clark had pulled her hair and caused her to scream. The officer reported the woman “feared” Clark, according to the probable cause statement.
