WILCOX COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) - The Wilcox County Sheriff’s office is investigating what the sheriff is calling “a bizarre murder” of a 20-year-old man.

According to Sheriff Ernest Evans, on Friday at around 4 p.m. deputies were called to Highway 162 near the nine-mile marker, about 10 miles outside of Camden, on what was believed to be a fatal motorcycle crash. When ALEA investigators arrived on the scene, they found Pine Hill resident John Fletcher, known to friends as “Tim,” with a fatal gunshot wound, reportedly to the back.

Evans said two people have now been charged with his murder. Evans identified the suspects as 18-year-old Maurice Powell and 17-year-old Marlon Mendenhall, both from the Pine Hill area. They have been charged with capital murder and are in the Wilcox County jail. Evans said another arrest may be forthcoming.
