NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - A man walked past a sexual assault in progress near downtown Nashville and pulled the suspect off the victim, according to an arrest affidavit.

Metro police were called to the Greyhound Bus Station on 5th Avenue South Thursday afternoon after a woman reported she was raped nearby.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the woman who said Deterio Jones, 39, raped her near 6th Avenue South and Division Street. According to the arrest affidavit, a man walked by and told officers he had to pull the man off the woman. Together the two walked to the bus station to call police, according to the affidavit.

After speaking with the woman and witness, police say they found Jones near Lafayette Street and arrested him. Officers say Jones told police he had consensual sex with the woman but "could not recall any statements made by the victim that indicated she consented to having sex with him."

Officers say Jones consented to a DNA test. He is charged with rape.
