PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a nurse has been arrested in connection with a patient that gave birth after a sexual assault at Hacienda Healthcare.

Police were originally alerted of the incident when staff at the health facility called for help when a patient gave birth to a baby who needed immediate medical attention.

A nurse who cared for the victim during her delivery said in a 911 call that she was unaware that the patient was pregnant .

Officials took the patient and her newborn baby to the hospital for treatment. Both were said to be recovering and in good condition.

A police spokesperson said Wednesday that the baby was still doing “quite well”.

The victim’s family’s attorney released a statement Tuesday giving more insight into her condition.

Family clarified that their daughter was not in a coma, but suffers “significant intellectual disabilities” after childhood seizures.

They say she is able to move parts of her body, make facial gestures and respond to sound.

A lawyer representing the victim's family has said the family was outraged at the "neglect of their daughter."

Since the woman gave birth in late December, police say they have been working tirelessly to find the person responsible for impregnating the woman, who was originally said to be in a vegetative state.

Officials collected DNA samples from male employees at the facility through court orders.

A licensed practical nurse at the facility, 36-year-old Nathan Sutherland, met with police on Tuesday.

Police took DNA samples from Sutherland on Tuesday, which provided a match between him and the victim’s baby.

Sutherland reportedly worked at the facility since 2011 and is believed to be at least partially responsible for the victim’s care when the assault occurred.

The story, which broke earlier in January 2019, made headlines across the world as the woman, who was in a said to be in a vegetative state, gave birth on December 29, 2018. The Arizona Republic reported in the days before Sutherland’s arrest, that the victim was not in a coma as previously reported. She does have “significant intellectual disabilities.” The woman cannot speak but does move from time to time. The woman is a tribal member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe. She has needed round-the-clock care since the age of 3.

Vietnamese Doctor Dismissed In Hacienda Health Rape Case: Staff Had "No Idea This Patient Was Pregnant"
James Fulford
January 23, 2019, 05:06 PM

The 911 call in the Hacienda Health case, in which black male nurse Nathan Sutherland is accused of impregnating a brain-damaged patient, reveals that the staff had no idea the woman was pregnant. They apparently delivered the baby on site, rather than transporting her to a full-service hospital with more facilities for giving birth, and only called 911 when the baby had difficulty breathing.

A nurse at a Phoenix health facility told a 911 operator that the staff had no idea an incapacitated 29-year-old patient was pregnant before she gave birth to a boy on Dec. 29, according to the panicked 911 call released Friday by Phoenix police.

The 5-minute, 11-second 911 call details the minutes after the woman unexpectedly gave birth. Staff can be heard scrambling to resuscitate the baby after the "surprise" delivery.

The caller, who tells the dispatcher she's a nurse at Hacienda de los Angeles, says the baby wasn't breathing and was "turning blue."

"One of the patients just had a baby and we had no idea she was pregnant," she said. "We were not prepared for that."

"Baby's turning blue," she continued. "We need someone now!"

An incapacitated patient at Hacienda de los Angeles, 1402 South Mountain Ave., gave birth Dec. 29. The Phoenix Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding the perpetrator who sexually assaulted and impregnated the patient.

The caller tells the dispatcher the baby was not responding, but they were performing chest compressions and attempting to suction the baby. She didn't know the conditions of the mother, but she later told the dispatcher the mom was OK.

The caller repeatedly told the 911 operator they weren't aware the patient was even pregnant and the birth came as a "complete surprise." She can be heard telling another person in the background that the patient had a baby. The other individual responded in shock.

The caller is unable to answer the dispatcher's questions about how long the woman had been pregnant.

The nurse announces the baby was responsive and had started to cry more than 4 minutes into the call.

"Thank God," she said into the phone.

'We had no idea this patient was pregnant': Nurse's 911 call details surprise birth at Hacienda facility, by Bree Burkitt, Arizona Republic, January 11, 2019

That means that someone at the facility didn't do due diligence, and one doctor has been fired. His name is Thanh Nguyen:

Sources close to the case confirm to CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV that Dr. Thanh Nguyen was the primary care doctor for the incapacitated woman who was sexually assaulted and gave birth at a Hacienda HealthCare facility in Phoenix. He was suspended by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System on Jan. 15, a letter obtained by the station shows.

The letter says he placed patients' health and welfare "in danger." It was dated 10 days after KPHO broke the story about the woman but doesn't mention the Hacienda case.

Nguyen's attorney said Tuesday night that his client has no comment.

A second physician who cared for her has resigned, KPHO says.

It's possible that Dr. Nguyen, who I've referred to as a Vietnamese doctor in the headline, was born in the United States, and thus is not Vietnamese in the same way that Judge Curiel is "not Mexican", and terrorist Omar Mateen is "not Afghan".

If you hear anyone raising such an objection, tell them I said "womp womp".

Interracial Rape: Woman Allegedly Impregnated By Black Male Nurse In Long-Term Care Was Native American (San Carlos Apache)
James Fulford
January 23, 2019, 02:19 PM

It was originally reported that the woman allegedly impregnated by black male nurse Nathan Sutherland was comatose, like Uma Thurman in the movie Kill Bill, where Thurman is the victim of rape and attempted rape by white male attendants. (In Hollywood, they have to be white.)

A report says that she isn't comatose, quite, and in the process reveals something we are frequently not told about rape victims—her race.

A lawyer for the family of an incapacitated Arizona woman who gave birth in a long-term care facility said she is not in a coma as previously reported. The Arizona Republic reported Friday that attorney John Micheaels said the 29-year-old woman has "significant intellectual disabilities" and does not speak but has some ability to move, responds to sounds and is able to make facial gestures.

Phoenix police have said the woman was the victim of a sexual assault and have disclosed little other information. A Jan. 8 statement by San Carlos Apache Tribe officials said the woman, a tribal member, gave birth while in a coma.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, had been described to CBS affiliate KPHO-TV as being in a vegetative state at the facility where she spent many years. "The important thing here is that contrary to what's been reported, she is a person, albeit with significant intellectual disabilities. She has feelings and is capable of responding to people she is familiar with, especially family," Micheaels told the newspaper.

Incapacitated woman who gave birth in care facility not in coma, lawyer says, CBS, January 21, 2019

In the interests of decency, the names of rape victims are withheld from the press, partly by the courts, partly by the MSM. In the process, the fact that a black man convicted in a string of rapes may have only raped white women is suppressed. But that's okay with the MSM, because they want it suppressed.

The Daily Mail was the only news source I could find to take this important fact and put it in the headline.

Black Male Nurse Charged With Impregnating Incapacitated Woman; Instead Of "Man Arrested", It's "Nurse Arrested"
James Fulford
January 23, 2019, 01:19 PM

Nathan Sutherland (right) is a licensed practical nurse,an occupational classification that requires about 10 less IQ points than Registered Nurse.

He was arrested after an incapacitated, brain-damaged woman in a long-term care facility where he worked was discovered to be pregnant. The woman is 29, but has been in a near-vegetative state since she was 3. DNA tests are said to have confirmed that he is the father, and thus he has been charged with rape and "vulnerable adult abuse".

Investigators arrested 36-year-old Nathan Sutherland on one count of sexual assault and one count of vulnerable adult abuse, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said.

Williams said Sutherland, a licensed practical nurse, worked at the Hacienda HealthCare facility where the woman lived and had been providing care to her.

Sutherland was linked to the case through DNA, Sgt. Tommy Thompson said, CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV reported. Investigators determined on Tuesday that Sutherland's DNA matched that of the baby, according to Thompson.

Most of the time, a story of a black man charged with a crime has the headline "Man Arrested". In this case the stories say "Nurse Arrested", without even noting that he's a male nurse.
