West Side man charged in string of West Town robberies and sexual assault

A West Side man is facing multiple felony charges after police said he committed four robberies in West Town in five days, including an attempted robbery during which they allege he sexually assaulted a woman, Chicago police said.

Dennis Jackson, 22, of the 1500 block of South Sawyer Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood, is charged with three counts of armed robbery with a firearm, one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is also charged with a misdemeanor theft count.

Tactical officers arrested Jackson while he rode a bicycle around 6:25 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North Oakley Boulevard in West Town.

Police said he matched the description in a string of robberies, and victims later identified him.

He is accused of robbing a woman and forcing her to take her clothes off.

The woman was walking into work around 6:10 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of North Leavitt Street when she said a man displayed a handgun and forced her into a gangway, police said. He forced her to undress and searched her purse for condoms.

The woman screamed, and the assailant ran away.
