Woman dies days after buttocks implant surgery by fake doctor

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. —

A man is charged with murder after police say he performed illegal implant surgery on a woman who died as a result.

Roderick and Anna Gordon said they still have few answers for why their daughter sought out the surgery or how she wound up trusting a person who had no medical training.

“She was a model in the Virgin Islands for years. She won a lot of competitions,” Roderick Gordon said.

Karima Gordon’s parents said their daughter did not need cosmetic surgery, but last spring, she traveled from DeKalb County to Jackson, Miss. to receive buttocks implants.

Within hours of the surgery, Karima Gordon became ill. She made it back to metro Atlanta, but died days later at Southern Regional Hospital.

The family is now relieved to hear that Mississippi authorities made an arrest on Tuesday.

Morris Garner is charged with depraved-heart murder. Investigators said Garner posed as a doctor and used fake silicone.

In his court appearance on Wednesday, Garner dressed as a woman and said he goes by the name Tracey Lynn Garner. He was denied bond.

“I was very relieved to hear that, because I just want some sort of justice,” Roderick Gordon said.

Mississippi authorities said they’re worried there could be more victims.

“I’m just hoping he didn’t harm somebody else and the same thing happened to someone else’s family. From what I understand, he was doing this for a while,” Roderick Gordon said.

If convicted of depraved-heart murder, Garner could face a life sentence.

A Hinds County resident has been arrested for depraved heart murder, announced Attorney General Jim Hood.

Tracey Lynn Garner (born as Morris Garner), age 52, of Jackson was arrested Tuesday by Investigators with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division Intellectual Property Task Force and charged with one count of depraved heart murder. A six-month investigation by state and federal investigators with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, United States Food and Drug Administration Office of Criminal Investigations and the Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure led to information which resulted in this defendant’s arrest for alleged actions that lead to the death of an Atlanta, Georgia woman who received injections of a foreign and possible counterfeit substance during an illegal medical procedure performed by Garner at her 1020 Peyton Avenue address in Jackson.

JACKSON, Miss. - An investigator says a Georgia woman had little chance of surviving an illegal cosmetic procedure in Mississippi because so much of a silicone-like substance was injected in her buttocks that it caused blood clots.

Garner has had gender changing procedures and goes by the name Tracey Lynn Garner,

Lee McDivitt, an investigator with the Mississippi attorney general's office, testified during a preliminary hearing Monday for 52-year-old Morris Garner. Garner is charged with depraved-heart murder in the death of 37-year-old Karima Gordon of Atlanta.

Hinds County Judge Houston Patton ordered Garner to remain jailed without bond. He sent the case to a grand jury.

Garner's lawyer, John Colette, says even if the allegations are true, he doesn't believe it is depraved-heart murder -- a "callous disregard for human life" that causes death.

DESOTO COUNTY, MS (localmemphis.com) - A Mississippi transgender pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the murder of an Alabama woman, who died after getting a silicone injection in her buttocks.

Tracey Lynn Garner of Jackson, formerly known as Morris Garner, is charged with depraved heart murder for two women's deaths. Garner entered her plea Tuesday in Hinds County Circuit Court. She's charged in the March 2012 death of Karima Gordon.

Mississippians are wondering why folks aren't fact checking before going under the knife.

"It's dangerous even with somebody that knows what they're doing. There's risks involved, indeed, even with somebody that's completely certified in doing that," said Mallory Harris.

Resident Terry Woods said, "I think we all should all be a little more aware, you know, being tested and checked with certain things."

Tracey Lynn Garner is charged in two butt injection deaths, a plastic surgery procedure she wasn't licensed to perform. Prosecutors say the low-cost procedure cost victim Marilyn Hale her life.

Mississippi woman gets lifetime prison sentence in silicone buttocks injection murder case
Published September 02, 2014

JACKSON, Miss. – A Mississippi woman convicted of killing a Georgia woman through illicit silicone buttocks injections has been sentenced to life in prison.

Tracy Lynn Garner of Jackson was sentenced Tuesday in Hinds County Circuit Court.

Garner was convicted Friday of depraved heart murder and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She was sentenced to five years on the wire fraud charge.

Garner was charged in the death of Karima Gordon who, prosecutors say, was lured to Jackson by Garner to perform the injections. The defense rested Friday without calling a witness after the prosecution finished its case.

Prosecutors say Gordon and a friend were referred to Garner by Natasha Stewart, an adult entertainer also known as Pebbelz Da Model. Stewart was convicted of manslaughter in Garner's death and sentenced to seven years.

Maryland authorities have charged a Philadelphia man with second-degree murder in the death of a woman who was given injections to make her buttocks larger.

The Prince George's County Sheriff's Office said Friday that 43-year-old Vinnie Taylor was charged with murder, assault and reckless endangerment after being extradited from St. Louis on Dec. 31. His attorney, Bethany Skopp, didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment Friday.

On March 20, the sheriff's office says Taylor gave a woman butt injections at a hotel in Capitol Heights, Maryland, in suburban Washington, D.C.

The sheriff's office says the woman became ill soon after, and died after checking herself into a local hospital. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives say they couldn't find any evidence that Taylor had any medical training.

A Mississippi inmate convicted in 2014 of the death of a Georgia woman through illicit silicone buttocks injections has died.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections said in a statement Monday that an autopsy will be conducted on the remains of Tracy Lynn Garner, who died on Sunday. She was 58 and had served less than three years of a life sentence.

Garner was convicted by a jury of depraved heart murder in the death of Karima Gordon, an Atlanta area resident who died eight days after receiving the injections in Jackson in 2012. Depraved heart murder is a killing caused by reckless disregard for human life.

Prosecutors said Gordon was referred to Garner by Natasha Stewart, an adult entertainer known as Pebbelz Da Model. Stewart was convicted of manslaughter in Garner's death and received a seven-year sentence.

Authorities initially identified Garner as a man, Morris Garner, after the arrest. Her attorney subsequently said Garner was born male and had sex reassignment surgery.
