September 29, 2017 10:50 AM

BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Police on Long Island have arrested a teacher’s assistant who they say is accused of raping a student.

Suffolk County Police say 27-year-old Marcus Johnson works at Bay Shore High School. Investigators say the “inappropriate relationship” started when the student was 14. The student is now 15.

Police say Johnson works with autistic students at the school, but say the victim is not one of his students.

Johnson has been charged with second and third degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. He’s expected to be arraigned later Friday.

A Long Island high school teacher’s assistant was arrested for raping an underage student at the school, Suffolk County police said Friday.

Bay Shore High School teacher’s assistant Marcus Johnson was arrested Thursday night and charged with rape and endangering the welfare of a child for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a teenager at the school, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The victim, now 15 years old, was 14 when the abuse started, cops said. Police say the victim was not one of Johnson’s students.

The 27-year-old paraprofessional has worked for the Department of Education since 2014, according to See Through NY. Johnson worked at the high school with children with autism since 2016, according to his Facebook page.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip court Friday.
