HILLSBOROUGH — A singer/songwriter who performs at synagogues, community centers and other venues has been charged with receiving and sharing child pornography.

Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick announced that Eric S. Komar, 46, of Hillsborough, was arrested Tuesday.

According to Fitzpatrick, Komar used a peer-to-peer file sharing program in April to share the images, including some of “prepubescent children being sexually abused.” A search warrant at Komar’s house on Tuesday revealed a thumb drive, external hard drive, laptop and desktop computer. The file sharing program was found on the desktop, according to court documents, and a review of the devices found pictures and videos of child pornography.

Komar, according to court documents, admitted to law enforcement officers that he has used the file sharing program, stores images in hidden files, and “has a large library of child pornography.” Komar estimated he had “thousands of images and videos,” and that he “masturbates to images of child pornography on a daily basis.”

A music teacher and singer/songwriter who performs for children at synagogues, Jewish community centers, camps and conventions nationwide is facing child pornography charges.

Federal prosecutors in New Jersey say Eric Komar was charged Tuesday with receiving and distributing images of child sexual abuse. The 46-year-old Hillsborough man was later remanded without bail after he made his initial court appearance.

Prosecutors say Komar used a peer-to-peer file-sharing program to obtain and distribute images and videos of young children being sexually abused.

Komar appears to have run a Kickstarter in 2013 to fund a "Jewish kids' CD' titled "Two Life." His website shows he's released three more albums.

Komar faces 5 to 20 years in prison if he's convicted.

Komar was represented at the court hearing by a federal public defender. That office does not comment on cases.
