A 7-month old baby who died more than 24 hours before his mother finally brought him to a hospital suffered from starvation and dehydration authorities said Monday — and investigators are now treating the case as a homicide.

The Medical Examiner’s office determined last week what killed malnourished infant Dameen Mohammed back in January.

The child was already dead when his mom, Anawar Jawad, 26, showed up to Lutheran Hospital on Jan. 7 with the boy, whose body weighed just eight pounds and had bruising and other visible signs of abuse, officials said.

Doctors at the hospital notified police, who questioned Jawad before she stopped cooperating and called a lawyer.

Investigators said at the time that Dameen was dead for about a day before his mother sought help.

Police said Jawad drove back and forth over the Verrazano-Narrow Bridge a few times before she and her mom finally brought the baby to the hospital.

Jawad has not yet been arrested.
