June 16, 2017 2:26 PM

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – After days of deliberation, a jury has found Jeronimo Yanez, the St. Anthony police officer who fatally shot Philando Castile during a traffic stop last summer, not guilty of second-degree manslaughter in the cafeteria worker’s death.

Four days after attorney’s made closing arguments, a jury decided Friday that the 29-year-old police officer was not guilty of “culpable negligence” in Castile’s death. The officer would’ve faced up to a decade in prison.

He was also found not guilty of two counts of endangerment by intentionally shooting a firearm, one count relating to Castille’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds, and the other pertaining to her child, who was sitting in the back seat.

The 12-member jury included two black people, and the remainder were white.

Once the verdict was read, Valerie Castile used the F-word several times before storming out of the courtroom. Valerie and Allysza Castile, Philando’s sister, were paralyzed, in total disbelief that the officer responsible for shooting and killing Philando walked out of court Friday a free man.

“There has always been a systemic problem in the state of Minnesota. Me thinking, with my common sense, that we would get justice in this case,” Valerie Castile said. “But nevertheless it never seems to fail us, the system continues to fail black people and they will continue to fail you all, like I said. Because this happened with Philando, when they get done with us they are coming for you, for you, for you and all your interracial children. Y’all are next.”:)
