Police: 71-year-old never let off accelerator during fatal Downtown crash

A 71-year-old woman who struck a killed a woman Downtown in March never let off the accelerator and managed to hit the victim twice, police said.

Sharon Felton of Avondale is charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of Barbara Vandenbroeck, 73.

Felton of Avondale was driving west on Eighth Street March 3 when she attempted to turn onto Sycamore Street and was struck by another vehicle, according to court records.

Investigators said Felton struck a construction fence, went off the right side of the road over the sidewalk, struck the ABM parking booth, then struck Vandenbroeck. Police then said Felton continued in a circle, ran over Vandenbroeck a second time, then struck a parked car.

According to court documents, she never let off the accelerator of her 2007 Honda CR-V during the crash.

Vandenbroeck was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she died due to her injuries, police said.
